Pineville - Funeral services for Mr. Rex Grider will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Bolton Chapel, Alexandria with Reverend Chris Thacker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in V.A. National Cemetery, Natchez, MS at 12:30 pm under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.

Mr. Grider, age 85, of Pineville, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 13, 2018 in his residence.

Rex was a native of Oklahoma and made the journey to California during the "Dust Bowl". He received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry at Oklahoma A & M. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant, where he was a pilot and flight instructor. During his teaching career, he taught Chemistry, Biology and Physics across Mississippi, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria and was the "go to" person to fix any and everything at Emmanuel and other churches, but his true passion was his family and his "Pippa Girl".

Mr. Grider is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Grider and Opal Elkins and his son John Malcolm Grider.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his "Mississippi Belle" of sixty years, Emily Day Grider of Pineville; his daughters, Linda Gail Grider of Pineville, Laurie Rogers and her husband Kerry of Pineville, Julie Waters of Lewisville, TX; his sisters, Rebecca Greer of Fresno, CA, Mina Jo Spears of Squaw Valley, CA, Laverne Taguchi of Bakersfield, CA, Debi Carrier of Norman, OK; his brothers, Kent Elkins of Coos Bay, Oregon, David Grider of Pine Key, Florida; six grandchildren, Casey Kirkland, Kelsey Rogers, Jared Rogers, Taylor Brown, Claire Waters, Sophie Waters and one great grandchild, Ellison Kirkland.

Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Bolton Chapel, Alexandria on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and will resume on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:00 am.
