Alexandria - A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard J. "Jerry" Herrin will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at St. Martin Catholic Church, Lecompte, with Rev. Adam Travis officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at the funeral home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in the Kramer Chapel. Visitation will resume from 8:30 A.M. until the time of service, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Lecompte.

Richard J. "Jerry" Herrin, 85, of Alexandria, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Mae McAuley Herrin; parents, Willie and Ina Richerson Herrin, and one sister, Beverly Fay O'Quinn.

Jerry was raised on a farm in Latanier and graduated from Poland High School. After High School, Jerry enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Japan during the Korean War Era. After his service in the Marine Corps, Jerry served in the Louisiana National Guard. Jerry worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. After retirement, Jerry worked at the Old Lecompte School. Jerry was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Martin Catholic Church for over 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and brought communion to those unable to attend church. Jerry enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his six daughters, Theresa Louviere (Bob Levy) of Pineville, Kathleen Brittain of Poland, Connie Herrin of Pineville, Karen Glorioso of Pineville, Jennifer Marcelle (Ryan) of Alexandria, and Gerrie Phillips (Robbie) of Pineville, one sister, Virginia Ann Jenkins of Centerville, MS, and brother, Douglas Fleet Herrin, of Baker, LA; along with 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Pallbearers honored to serve include Ryan Marcelle, Robbie Phillips, Tony Glorioso, Steven Brevelle, Eric Marcelle, and Zachary Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be John Cain, Billy Wayne Tanner, Charles Petrus, and Lawrence Kiper.

Charitable donations in Jerry's memory can be made to St. Martin Catholic Church, 1815 St. Martin St., Lecompte, LA, 71346.
