Richard S. Kellogg

Funeral services for Richard S. Kellogg, 92, will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, February 28, 2013 in the Forest Hill United Pentecostal Church with the Reverend Gregory Heidner officiating. Committal services will follow in the Butter Cemetery in Forest Hill under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. Visitation will be today from 5 pm until 10 pm and Thursday from 10 am until 2 pm in the church.

Mr. Kellogg, 92, of Forest Hill, died peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2013 in the Grace Home, St. Francis Cabrini Hospital of Alexandria. He was born on January 9, 1921 in Coushatta., Louisiana.

He married Alpha Aline Martin of Hall Summit, Louisiana on October 5, 1940.

On April 21, 1944, he was drafted into World War II, becoming Private Kellogg of 1st Class 28th Division. Mr. Kellogg being one of many privates to be captured on December 17, 1944, in the "Bulge", was a P.O.W. at Stalag IX-B, Bad Orls, Germany.

Pvt. Kellogg received 2 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct WWII Victory Medals, E.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon.

He worked for J.W. McDonald Construction Company, where he later retired after many years.

Mr. Kellogg is a longtime resident of Forest Hill. He loved and enjoyed all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, planting a garden and many other things. For years he plowed his garden with his mule and shared his vegetables with folks in the community.

He is preceded in death by his wife Alpha Martin Kellogg; one son, Kenneth Monroe "Canoe" Kellogg; and one great grandson, Richard Blake Kellogg.

Mr. Kellogg is survived by two children, Dean Kellogg and Dorothy Aline Walters both of Forest Hill; one sister, Margaret Kellogg Gates of Michigan; seven grandchildren, Denise Kellogg, Scott Kellogg, Belinda Kellogg, Kevin Walters, Karen Boults all of Forest Hill, Diane Peel of Pineville and Keith Walters of McNary; sixteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers to serve will be Scott Kellogg, Keith Walters, Kevin Walters, Donald Walters, Joey Peel, and Dale Carter.
