Thomas A. Ellis, Sr.

Mr. Thomas A. Ellis, Sr. passed away August 6, 2012 in McKinney, Texas surrounded by his family.

The home going services will be Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 831 Broadway Avenue, Alexandria, LA 71301. A public viewing will be from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Robinson Family Mortuary in Pineville, LA. There will be a viewing at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday before the services at True Vine.

Thomas Ellis was born to the late Robert and Florence Linscomb Ellis on November 25, 1928 in Pineville, LA.

He graduated from Peabody High School in 1947. Thomas served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He received his Bachelors degree from Grambling State University in 1957. Mr. Ellis received his Masters degree in Supervision and Administration from Southern University in Baton Rouge and a plus 30 from Louisiana College and Northwestern State University. He also studied at Duke University. Mr. Ellis retired after 30 years as a teacher and principal in the Rapides Parish School System. He was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Ellis was a lifetime member of the Grambling State University Alumni Association and the Alexandria Grambling Tailgaters. A charter member of VFW Post 8852. A member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity where he just won the Distinguished Sigma award. Mr. Ellis was a Connecting Link of the Links, Inc., an advocate promotor of Arna Botemps African American Museum, and he supported Threads style show each year on the runway to raise funds for cancer research.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bessie Ellis James, and brother James Ellis.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories a wife of 54 years, Bertha McGaskey Ellis, daughter Sharon Ellis of McKinney, Texas; sons Thomas A. Ellis, Jr. (Gloria), Lionel Edwards (Carla), his grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church scholarship fund in his memory.
