Nathan Randolph Hughey Obituary
Nathan Randolph Hughey

"He reached down from heaven and rescued me; He drew me out of deep waters." Psalms 18:16

Nathan Randolph Hughey was called home by his Lord on May 28, 2014 while swimming at Navarre Beach, FL. He was born in Alexandria, LA March 10, 1993 and was a lifelong resident of the Ruby community.

He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church and attended St. Frances Cabrini School. His faith was of great importance to him and he was always the person prodding his friends and family to get up and ready for church.

Nathan attended Pineville High School, where he graduated in 2011. He was a Junior at Louisiana Tech at the time of his death and had recently joined the national honor society Beta Gamma Sigma.

Nathan was a natural athlete and enjoyed the outdoors. He played soccer through his school years, earning many awards and gaining a host of good friends. He greatly enjoyed golf and fishing with his father. He loved movies and music and not just the pop culture flavor but the hidden gems you had to look for. He was going to be leaving soon to go to his first week long music festival to combine two of his favorite things, camping and music.

Nathan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter C. "Buster" Brevelle and Ellen Jenkins Brevelle.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Terry Brevelle Hughey of Ruby, LA; brother Thomas Hughey of Kansas City, MO; sister Anna Hughey of Ruby; paternal grandparents B.R. and Margaret Hughey of Pineville; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him and cherish his memory.

Not surprisingly, Nathan also leaves a host of friends, both lifelong as well as new friends he met at Tech. They will remember him as a kind, caring, good hearted young man. They will never forget his smile, his laugh, and how his presence would light up the room. Nathan would want each of them to know how much he cherished them as well.

Services for Nathan will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Revs. Chad Partain and Blake Deshautelle officiating.

The family requests that visitation be observed Thursday at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Rosary service will be held Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with visitation resuming at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Nathan's memory to St. Frances Cabrini School, 2215 E. Texas Ave, Alexandria, LA 71301 for a scholarship that will be established in Nathan's memory.
