Marksville - Funeral services for Reverend Gary Lee Jones will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Marksville Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Chuck Fountain officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Effie. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.

Reverend Jones, 82, of Marksville, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gary Evans Jones and Donie Crosby Jones; infant daughter, Joanna Jones as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

Pastor Jones proudly served his country in the military. After being discharged from the army he prepared for the ministry and received his Bachelor of Arts degree through Trevecca Nazarene University. He continued his education through the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He began his pastoral ministry in 1965 at Wartburg, TN. He also pastored in Doyle, TN and Vivian, LA. In 1981, he moved to Marksville to pastor the Church of the Nazarene. He started a school at the church in 1983 which continues to serve the community. He has been a dedicated pastor and friend, not only to the church, but the community as a whole. Bro. Jones is well loved and respected. Many people have come to know the Lord through his ministry. He will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 ½ years, Lillie "Bobbie" Jones of Effie; one son, Jonathan Jones of Effie; three daughters, Selita Robinson (Mike) of Deville, Rachel Miles (Jeff) of Ruby, Susanna Duckering (Tim) of Marksville; his twin, John Lee Jones of Graceville, Florida and brother, Homer Jones of Dexter, Georgia; one sister, Loraine Ayers of Olar, S.C.; five grandchildren, Kayla Parker, Ben Woodard, Jake Woodard, Lee Miles, Matthew Miles and five great grandchildren, Carter McEntyre, Aaron Goff, Paxton Miles, Wyatt Woodard and Jo Parker.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be his grandsons, Ben Woodard, Jake Woodard, Lee Miles, Matthew Miles, and nephews, Greg Jones, and H.B. Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made toward the children's playground memorial fund, "Candyland Playground" to be utilized by the children of the Nazarene School/Church and made payable to the Marksville Church of the Nazarene.
