Funeral service for Peggy Elaine Matheson Sibley will be 2 pm on Friday, June 20, 2011 at Blanchard-St. Denis Chapel in Natchitoches with the Reverend David Foster of Wildwood United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery of Natchitoches under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2009 from 9 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Peggy passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Calder Woods in Beaumont, Texas after a lengthy illness. She was born in Georgetown on February 1, 1926 to late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Matheson of Alexandria. She attended high school in Alexandria at St Francis Xavier High School and then graduated from Northwestern State University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She then earned her Masters of Education from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1955. She was a member of Alpha Beta Alpha, a library science fraternity, and also Kappa Delta Epsilon, an educational sorority. She then began teaching in the Natchitoches area until her retirement after 22 years of service.

Peggy and her husband, Samuel Thornton Sibley, III were prominent business leaders in Natchitoches and were the owners of Wendy's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Sibley Apartments, Robo Wash, and several other businesses. She made Natchitoches her home for nearly 50 years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches.

After the death of her husband, Peggy moved to Texas. She lived in Wildwood, Texas at a golf / retirement community for several years before moving to Calder Woods in 2007. Calder Woods is a Buckner facility in Beaumont that specializes in residential care for the elderly. She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church in Village Mills, Texas. She was very devoted to her Christian beliefs and led a life that set an example for all to follow.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Thornton Sibley III of Natchitoches; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Matheson of Alexandria; sister, Marjorie Matheson of Alexandria.

She is survived by her sisters, Edith Tutt and husband Wayne of Wildwood, Texas and Juanita M. Cusimano of New Roads; brothers, Rupert Matheson and wife Carmel of Slidell, Donas Matheson and wife Beverly of Bell City, and Charles Matheson and wife Mickey of Centerpoint; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
