Michael Crosby Obituary

Michael Carl Crosby of Crawfordville passed away Feb. 22, 2018.

He was born Jan. 28, 1962 in Jacksonville. He was a graduate of Wakulla High School in Crawfordville.

Michael gave 100 percent of himself to whatever vocation he was in. It could be a minor yard project, or his employment with the City of Tallahassee as the purchasing agent for the Purdom Electric Plant in St. Marks. He could be depended on for going beyond expectations in his work performance. He retired from the City of Tallahassee in 2011. After his retirement, he took a job at Walmart to stay busy and productive. Customers loved him and specifically asked for him because of his good attitude and the excellent customer service he gave them.

Michael enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going fishing, sunning on the beach, and being outdoors. He enjoyed helping wherever there was a need. He recently signed up to do lawn work for the Senior Citizens of Wakulla County. He had compassion for people of all walks of life.

Michael could put me to shame in having a neat and orderly house. He had a place for everything and everything was always in its place. And he had pictures of all his family members on display in almost every room of his home. He was very proud of his family heritage. His desire in life was to have unity between his family members and he would always plot to make that happen if there were any problems within the family.

Michael had a deep respect for God. He looked up to Him and knew he deserved the best. If he could not give Him the best, he refused to be a hypocrite and preached to some of his friends who lived a double life. He was proud of his Granddaddy, Glenn Lawhon; who was a preacher of the gospel and he was also proud of his brother, Glenn Hamel, who is the pastor of Promise Land Ministries.

Michael lost the love of his life, Faith Rudd Leynes, 8 years ago, but he never stopped loving her or her family. He had a date with her father, Jim Rudd, to take him out to eat for his birthday. However, I had to call Jim and tell him that Michael would be unable to celebrate with him because the Lord had called him home.

Michael had three fathers of his own (Bobby Crosby, Richard Hamel and Charles Sparks) and I thank God that his life was filled with so much love.

When Michael was a little boy, he was concerned about his friends coming to know the Lord as their Savior. I remember him bringing several children home with him and telling me his friends would like to know Jesus as their Savior. He asked me to tell them how to get saved and pray with them to receive Christ.

Michael was a mixture of many things like we all are, but his heart and desire to make peace when possible and have right rule over wrong was a big tribute in his life. He was an unselfish person and an honest person. He would do anything to help a person he cared for and even a stranger with a sincere need. He liked to appear macho, but he was really a tender and loving person.

He gave me wise counsel in life because he cared about me. When the doctors told me not to go to Indonesia because of a serious health issue, Michael told me to go. I will never forget his enduring phone call to me when I was torn about what to do. He said, "Mama, this is a win/win situation." This is a chance for you to get to know your son's new family and attend the wedding of your son and his bride. This is a chance for you to take your son's, daughter, Victoria, with you to experience a new country and bond with her father's new wife and family also. So, no matter what happens with your health, if you live or if your days are numbered, this is a chance to make a difference." Through those words of my son to me, the Lord gave me the faith to go on one of the most wonderful and spiritual journeys of my life.

I thank God for a son who put me first and loved me and wanted the best for me. I will miss him, but I know the Lord had a reason for taking him from this world. Though we may not understand why, we can all trust the One who has all the facts and all the love to inspire the right course for us.

Thank you, Mike, for the gift of your love and for being there and making such a big difference in my life and in lives of those you touched. Thank you for all the laughter, fun, and even frustration at times, because you always kept life interesting. I would give anything to have you back here and be able to hug you and share my feelings for you, one more time, but God had different plans and His plans are always the best, whether we understand them or not. May you know that you made a difference and you will always be in our hearts. Thank you for the value you put on your family and on others. I was so touched to see all the things you saved in life when I found the cards, letters, newspaper clippings, and Glenn's graduation invitation and picture, all tucked away in a special treasure drawer at your house the other night. You will be loved and missed forever.

Michael is survived by his three children, Cristy Giaimo, Michael Crosby Jr., and Cory Morse (Danny); five grandchildren, Kira Anderson, Kirstin Anderson, Nathanael Giaimo, Ella Morgan, and Hudson Morse; stepfather and mother, Charles and Glenda Lawhon Sparks; father and stepmother, Bobby and Lillian Mae Crosby; siblings, Glenn Hamel (Vera), step-sister, Michelle Sparks Raymond (David), Dawn Fields, Candace Vaughn; and numerous nephews and nieces and other beloved family members.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Sonja Crosby; and his brother, Bo Crosby; his grandparents, Glenn and Willie Mae Lawhon; his great grandparents, Calvin and Verdell Carter and C. K. and Maude Lawhon; and other beloved family members.

Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey Young Chapel in Crawfordville. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Arran Cemetery.

David Conn of Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey Young Chapel in Crawfordville assisted the family with arragements.
