Benford Adell Obituary
Benford Adell, age 66 of Forrest City, formerly of Brinkley, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at his home.
Benford was born March 28, 1951 in Brinkley, to Herman Adell Sr. and Ollie Crawford-Adell. He was one of several children born to this union.
Benford attended school at the Brinkley Public School System. He was a 1970 graduate of Marian Anderson High School.
"Yogi" or "BB", as Benford was affectionately known, was a member of Taylor Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Forrest City, for more than 20 years, where he served as a member of the church's usher board and was a member of the church choir and male chorus.
Benford was employed with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in Forrest City for more than 21 years before retiring in March 2016. He also worked for Yale Hoists, also of Forrest City, for more than 18 years before it closed its doors. He was always a very hard working individual.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Blake Anthony McKissick; six brothers, Clarence Adell, Charlie Adell, Herman Adell Jr., Louis J. Adell, Carl Adell and Garry Adell; and two sisters, Katherine Adell and Carrie Hardin.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Nancy Metcalf-Adell of Forrest City; a son, Devin Adell Sr. of Forrest City; two daughters, Sharon (Johnny) Johnson-McMillian of Aberdeen, Miss. and Dana Metcalf-Garrison of Forrest City; nine grandchildren, Latrell Garrison, Deadra Garrison, Elizabeth Garrison, Devin Adell Jr., Ishyana Maddox, Javian McMillian, Kaleah Adell and Destiny Green, all of Forrest City and Kameron Adell of Wynne; four brothers, Riley Franklin Adell, Buford Adell, Michael Adell and Oliver Wayne Adell, all of Brinkley; seven sisters, Barbara (Richard) Chunn, Evelyn Adell, Ollie Mae Adell-Davis, Cheryl Adell-Burnett and Carolyn Dillard, all of Brinkley, Mary Beth (Jeff Sr.) Hudson of Little Rock and Marilyn (Warren Sr.) of Flint, Mich.; a sister in law, Lizzie Adell of Brinkley; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 113 Farr Street in Forrest City, with Reverend Jesse Brown officiating. Internment will take place at Haven of Rest Cemetery.
