Thurston Williams Obituary
Thurston Williams, age 67, of Palestine, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.
Thurston was born Sept. 26, 1950, in Forrest City, to Jesse Williams and Verna Lee Seward-Williams.
Thurston was a lifelong faithful member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Palestine.
Thurston attended Marian Anderson High School in Brinkley. He went on to further his education by receiving a vocational degree in carpentry and masonry from Crowley's Ridge Vocational School in Forrest City.
Thurston worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years before his health began to fail.
"Scallywag," as Thurston was affectionately known by family and friends, was a true hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed high school football and basketball. He attended all the home football and basketball games of the Palestine-Wheatley Patriots and Forrest City Mustangs.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Preston Williams.
Survivors are two sons, Lamond (Shalain) Williams of Tavers, Fla. and Cory Pitts of Jonesboro; a daughter, LaKetha (Reverend Wendell) Anderson of Winter Garden, Fla.; his mother, Verna Lee Seward-Williams of Palestine; three brothers, Palowski Williams of Memphis, Cordell Williams of Palestine and Derrick Williams of Arlington, Tecas; seven sisters, Margaret (Reverend James Jr.) Leon of Brinkley, Brenda (Redell) Reeder and Verna (Reginald) Beale, both of Memphis, Debra (Timothy) Broughton of Houston, Texas, Charlene Smith and Lashelle (Derrick) Smith, both of Arlington, Texas and Leatrice (Bryan) Sanders of Grand Prairie, Texas; and four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church, 968 SFC 858, in Palestine. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Mount of Olive Ministries, 1200 North Main Street Extended, in Brinkley, with Reverend Hershal Smith officiating. Internment will take place at Union Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dozier Bolden, David Seward, Arvell Morgan, Carlos Spearmon, Marvin Seward and Stanley Hawkins.
Arrangements will be provided by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
