BRUCE MARVIN HASTON Bruce Marvin Haston, 82, of Big Lagoon, California, passed away peacefully in San Francisco on January 15th, 2018. He was born on February 12th, 1935 in Portland Oregon. He is survived by his two children Laura and Roger and his granddaughter Jessica. Bruce was a proud 4th generation Oregonian who once had aspirations of being a professional bowler. He spent time in the army in Germany, a country that he fell in love with. After returning to the US, he found his true passion in life as a teacher. Bruce received his PhD from Washington State University studying the impacts of the Bonneville dam. He was a professor of political science at Humboldt State University from 1969 to 1986 where he inspired 1000's of young people with his no-nonsense teaching style and a commitment to make the world a better place. He was dedicated to his students and was always proud to see their success in life. He was often asked to be on television to discuss election results and understand the US political system. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing. In 1972, he built his own house in Big Lagoon where he spent almost 50 years watching the Gray whales he loved. He was a huge Giants fan and enjoyed watching a well-pitched ballgame while drinking a beer. He travelled extensively around the world and loved wandering the streets of the great cities of the world. It is fitting for a man committed democracy and speaking up for those without a voice to have been born on Abraham Lincoln's birthday and died on Martin Luther King's.
