GARY P. CAHILL Gary Patrick Cahill passed away May 8, 2018 in Eureka, CA with his family at his side. He was born at home November 2, 1938 on the old Cahill farm in Janesville, MN with Grandmother Keough as his nurse. Gary was the fifth of seven children born to Leonard and Bridget Cahill. The family moved to Loyalton, CA in 1941 where Gary attended elementary and two years of high school. They later moved to Arcata, CA in 1955 where he graduated from Arcata High School with the class of 1957. Gary's military career, 1961-1966, included active duty in the US Army at Ft. Ord and Ft. Lewis, WA . Returning home he chose his career as a truck driver, hauling logs for Wayne Bare Trucking Co. He moved to Reno, NV in 1963 and continued as a heavy equipment transporter for various construction companies. After retiring from years on the road, Gary loved to travel for pleasure. He enjoyed learning the history and geography while traveling to several countries and the United States with his sister Shannon and his mother. He also enjoyed photography and golfing with his buddies in Reno. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bridget Keough Cahill, and his brothers John and Bill Cahill. He is survived by his four siblings: Richard (Patricia) Cahill, Shannon Rohrbach Gier, Catherine (Donald) Dellabalma, and Nancy Silva, sisters-in-laws Elaine (John) Cahill and Carole (Bill) Cahill. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews and their spouses and families. Family comfort and care that was extended to Gary's family by Frye's Care Home, Hospice of Humboldt and Dr. John Nelson was greatly appreciated. All services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1690 Janes Rd., Arcata, CA: Rosary service, Friday, May 18 at 7 PM and Mass of Christian Burial with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery Saturday, May 19 at 10 AM.
