Mary Louise Kelly Obituary
MARY LOUISE KELLY Mary Lou, known as GGLou, "Great Grandma Lou", to all the family, was born June 10, 1922 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to parents Mildred and Leroy Eastman. She passed peacefully, June 8, 2018, surrounded by her family, laughing and telling family stories, celebrating a life well lived. She graduated from RA Long High School in Longview, WA with the class of 1940 and attended many of her reunions. Her first job was with the Chamber of Commerce in Longview, Washington. She married Malcolm Kelly, in Longview. First they eloped in February and no one believed them, so they officially married September 27, 1942. Six children followed. In 1960, the family moved to Redding, CA. She and her husband started THRIFTY SUPPLY, a wholesale plumbing and heating company, in Eureka in 1962. While raising her children, she kept the books for the company in her home office, until retirement in June of 2015, at the age of 93. Mary Lou enjoyed sewing and knitting sweaters for her girls, as well as reading and doing puzzles. She passed with a keen sense of hearing and was sharp, with a quick wit and fun sense of humor until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Eloise Howard, husband Malcolm Kelly in 1985, and son-in-law, Michael Von Braun. Also by her High School girlfriends, Jean Senk, and Peg Styles with whom she traveled for many years. She leaves behind her six children, Malcolm Bruce Kelly of Ukiah, Steve Kelly, Sandy Comer, and Dan, Nancy Woods and Gary of Eureka, Bonnie Von Braun of Ferndale, and James Kelly and Craig of Los Angeles. Her Grandchildren Tara Rodrigues/Dave of Bodega; Todd Woods/Jeanne of Kneeland; Fred Riley/Akiko of Oakland; Gena Chastain/Bernard of Palmer, Alaska. Her Great Grandchildren Jessa Rodriguez, Ella Rodriguez, Cade Chastain, Ryan Chastain, Maddie Woods and Cayden Woods. And nieces Jackie Kelly Evans of Longview WA, Kathy and Kelly Beckwith, of Battleground, WA, and Peggy Ann Brewer of Poway, CA. Also many Grand and Great-grand nieces and nephews. We want to thank Dolly and ALL the staff at Fryes Care Home for their support, as well as her "table mates", Herb and Doris "passed", Mary, Alice and Valerie for their friendship, and Marie for caring for the roses.
