Ollie Roberts Sorrell Foseide passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 30th, 2009, in Sacramento, California.
She was born in the village of Wautek, along the Klamath River, on May 22nd, 1921 to her parents Archie Roberts and Frances James Roberts. She attended Wautek Elementary and Stewart Indian Boarding school in Carson City, Nevada.
Ollie was united in marriage for 42 years to John “Frosty” Foseide. Ollie was an essential supporter and fundraiser for the Yurok community in their efforts to gain federal recognition. She loved every one of her students at Jack Norton Elementary school where she cooked for over twenty years. She enjoyed participating in the California Indian Basket Weavers Association as well as the “Follow the Smoke” gatherings in Karuk Country with all her friends. She wrote a weekly column titled “Pecwan Patter” for the Klamath-Trinity Kourier, and offered her support and encouragement to students of the Yurok language. Her faith in the lord was strong; she regularly attended church and revivals, and taught Sunday school at the Wautek Church. She baked delicious pies, canned fruits and vegetables, enjoyed having a full smokehouse and welcomed everyone into her home with a feast of food so they can “stay awhile.” She traveled to countless places sharing a laugh and many prayers with old friends and greeting new ones with her beautiful smile.
Ollie is survived by her son Marlen Sorrell; daughter Cleo Foseide and husband Doug Poffinburger; daughter in law Judy Sorrell; grandchildren Willard, Lorentz, Jonathan, and Misty Sorrell; sisters Myrtle and husband Ellis Waggoner, Frances “Honey Girl” Snider; uncle Jimmy James; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband John “Frosty” Foseide; parents Archie Roberts and Frances James Roberts; sons Lorentz, Joe, and Mike Sorrell; sister’s Eleanor Logan and Mary Carroll; daughter in-law Helen Sorrell; and her dear friend Georgiana Trull, along with many other family and friends.
Visitation for Ollie will take place at 11:00am to 1:00pm, Tuesday April 7th, 2009, at Paul’s Chapel, 1070 H St, Arcata, CA. Services will immediately follow visitation, officiating Joe Boy Lewis and Porty Blake. Burial services at the Wautek Cemetery will be at a later date. A potluck reception will be held at the Assembly of God Abundant Life Center at 1947 Sutter Road in McKinleyville.

To all of Ollie's family,
Ollie's smiling face will always be in my heart. She always was so kind to me and my kids. We have lots of good memories and she always made sure that I 'd tell Antoinette that she was praying for her to get a different job! We know she's up where she can watch us all. Love, Gael

We have wonderful memories of our days at Jack Norton School when Ollie was the cook and then the friendship we maintained down through the years. When we moved back to Orleans over sixteen years ago Ollie and Eleanor brought us fish. She was so thoughtful. The last time I saw Ollie was three years ago at basket camp at Camp Creek and we had a wonderful visit. She'd had my sister, Janet, go and get me. We moved to Washington a year and a half ago to be close to our grandchildren but I thought about her on several occasions, the last one was just last week. We truly loved her. She was a wonderful friend.
