Sterling (Frank) Ellison
January 24, 2025
I still wonder at times, to this day what Mr. Robin Fairbairn saw in me. There is no reason why his family would have known me. While I attended Humboldt State College ( now Cal Poly Humboldt) I worked at a small airport in Eureka named Murray Field. This is where I met Mr. Fairbairn. I was the gas attendant that filled his airplane with fuel. On many occasions he would speak with me and encourage me to go to law school. He felt that I had a natural talent to think like a lawyer. He offered to help to prepare me for the LSAT, and later law school application and letter of recommendation. I have wondered often enough about him that I decided today (1/24/2024) to see if he was mentioned on the web. Given his uncommon name it was easy for me to remember. I was sad to see that he had passed-he was a good man. Given the length of time since his passing no one may ever read my remembrance, but I felt it was necessary to say. Eureka was and is a small town. If it helps my name is Sterling Ellison, but I used the nickname of Frank at the time. My mother, Margaret Ellison, later Margaret Bradshaw, worked at Humboldt National Bank. I graduated from Humboldt college in 1978, I moved away from Eureka that same year, as did Mr. Fairbairn. Later I did acquire my real estate brokers license. I even had a paper route when I was younger. Maybe he and I did think alike.

To Rossi: Just heared about losing your soul mate and protector. I was so happy to be able to work with Robin as his personal trainer. He was always fun cheerful and a joy to be around. I sill certainly miss his bright smile and optimistic attitude about life.

To Rossie and the Fairbairn family,
Robin will always live in my memories as a fun loving gentleman who faced uncertainty with dignity and strength . A man that was at ease in almost any environment whether it be in the comforts of our home in Paso or walking the streets in Spain looking for our missing car.
The memory of Robin Fairbairn will live in our hearts forever.

Robin and his family gave Ruth and I a great assist in getting our first house in Orange almost 50 years ago. And then in real coincidence both families ended up in moving to Templeton. I enjoyed working on many projects for Robin and Rossi at their home in HVR, especially the "Palatial Pigeon Palace". We will be at the park on the 17th.

I met Robin a few years ago when our office needed legal counsel. He became a friend the minute I met him. If I had to use one word to describe him, it would be "gentleman". I will miss him but so glad I had the privilege to meet him. To his family, I cannot imagine your loss. Thanks for sharing him.
