Daniel Durbin Obituary

He was born in N. Kansas City, Missouri, to Gary and Pat Durbin, the family moved back to Eureka in 1977 where he lived until his death. Danny attended Cutten schools, Eureka High, and ITT specialty school where he found a career as a computer technician. Danny is survived by his two girls: Christina Carroll and Amy Durbin and son-in-law Maverick Carroll; his parents Gary & Pat Durbin; his sister Carol Lashley and her husband Robert; his brother Mike Durbin and his wife Angie; his sister Debbie Turner, and her husband Robert; and numerous others. Daniel worked at Sequoia Gas, later teaching at ITT; then at Simpson Timber Company, and at last for the County of Humboldt. He used his computer skills at several other locations as a volunteer. He loved working at youth church camp and went on as many mission work teams as time would allow including World Changers, hurricane relief in Hawaii and Texas during Katrina. His skills working on sound systems have been used by many area churches. Dan also preached in churches all over the county as needs arose. A memorial service will be held at Ridgewood Heights Baptist Church, 1616 Ridgewood Dr., Eureka, in the Cutten area. The service will be Saturday, May 15 at 11:00 AM and will be followed by a luncheon and fellowship time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Daniel's name to one of his favorite ministries: Memorial funds are being accepted by the Ridgewood Heights Baptist Church, 1616 Ridgewood Drive, Eureka, CA 95503. Designate your choice from the following funds: .North Coast Baptist Assn. Memorial Camp Fund. .C.S.B.C. Men's Ministries Disaster Relief Fund .Ridgewood Heights Church Memorial Fund. To Danny's Family: Before I retired in October, I worked with Danny and what a wonderful person he was. He had endless patience with this "dumb blonde" when it came to computer problems. He was the best! We exchanged jokes/emails right up until the end. I am shocked and hurt by his passing, but I know he has already made his way and is laughing that joyful laugh. He has, in fact, just gone on ahead... I shall miss him terribly and I extend my heartfelt condolences to all of you.

It was such a pleasure working with Danny. His wry sense of humor, can-do attitude and great patience in the face of frustration always made me smile. Danny, I hope you're working in the shop of your dreams in Heaven.

Danny was a good man to have at a disaster. He was very conscientious and committed to the DR ministry. We will miss him.

There is a passage in the Psalms of King David that says, "May those who fear you (God the Father) rejoice when they see me". Danny was always a friend and a great help whenever I saw him. It was easy to rejoice at his smile.

Danny always poured his heart into the work before him. When he said he would do something (usually volunteering before being asked), I knew that it would be done with excellence.

His graduation to Heaven has hit me hard. But like Doug Culbert said earlier, He is now free from the burdens of this world and is rejoicing in the presence of God.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who miss Danny.

My deepest sympathy to your family, I had the pleasure of working with Danny at Child Support Services. We had many laughs together assisting me with various computer issues. There were many times I wanted to get my bat out and take out my frustration with the system, but Danny always had a less extreme solution to my problems….

He will be truly missed here at the office and I know he has truly earned his wings at the “Pearly Gate of Heaven”.

Pastor Gary, Pat and Family,
Our heartfelt condolences to all of you. The loss of a son, is deep. The 11 yrs we were mentored by both of you helped us tremendously during our own loss because we remembered all the scriptures we learned at Ridgewood and the one we used most with the loss of Bryan was when you said...His Grace is Sufficient...We love you so much!

Gary, Pat and family. We were all saddened by the loss of Danny. We have been talking about the years we knew Danny. Our first day at Ridgewood Heights Church in 1978 to his coming to our home and playing with Chris, Cameron, Jamie and Kyle. But mostly the antics that Danny, Chris and Kyle pulled in their teenage years. We are left grinning from ear to ear. I remember the first time Danny let me hug him. I almost cried. And did he love his pizza and Pepsi. Danny as an adult would come to our home to do some work on Johan's computer or our gas heater. He would also drop by every once in a while to show us his new purchase. It could be a car, motorcycle or whatever. He and Johan would stand out front of our house and swap stories. Lots of good times and fond memories of him. We are praying for all of you.

Christina and Amy, My heart breaks for both you girls. I do not know how hard this is for you both but I do know that your dad loved you girls with all that he was. I am very sorry for your loss and for the loss of all that knew him. He will be missed and was loved by many. I take pride in knowing that Danny loved the Lord and all he wanted was for everyone to hear the Good News and to find salvation. Danny left this world doing what he did so unselfishly, helping others. The miracle we all prayed for was given, just given to the families that Danny's organs went to. With his one body he was able to save many people who may not have known the Lord. He gave those families the opportunity to still hear the Good News and receive the gift of salvation. I know Danny was not afraid to go home and always said, "When the Lord is ready, I am ready" the only problem was that no one around him was ready. I love you both and will continue to pray for you and your family. Love Katrina

Gary, Pat, Christina and Amy:
As much as I want Danny back with us it's only a selfish attitude. Danny did so much for so many and while he will be missed I know that God is in control and has a plan. I pray for God's comfort in your lives and I know that you are strong people because of that relationship with God that you have. Know that my family is grieving with you.

Gary and Pat....We grieve with you in this very difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you and will be here if you need us. Please don't hesitate to call if there is anything we can do. May the LORD bless you and your family.

Durbin family,
What a shock to read about Danny's passing. I had the privilege of being his teacher at Cutten and enjoyed his gentle ways and smiling face, always willing to help me or any other student. Then I had the privilege of having his wonderful daughters and he was always there for them. I will be out of town on Sat. but my love, prayers and wonderful memories will be with you all.

The Durbin Family & Friends: At work today the rattling, distracting light near my desk made me think of Danny. A few weeks ago Danny was working on equipment near my desk when a co-worker & I were happily acknowledging the light was quiet that day. Danny stopped by and with a deadpan look said "if that light acts up again, let me know I have a stick to take care of that". As he walked away I had visions of him taking the drop ceiling down with a baseball bat. Some time later the light started acting up so I jokingly called Danny and told him to bring the stick. Seconds later Danny appeared with a huge stick almost as tall as he was and his crooked grin. He lifted the ceiling tile with the stick and we all welcomed the silence. Today, that rattling, distracting light was a comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Danny will be missed.

What a blessing Danny was to my family. After my Dad's heart attacks he was always willing to come out and do things that my Dad was no longer able to do. He was a gentle man whose heart was to serve. All our sympathies to his family. He will be missed.

Family and Friends. I've had the pleasure of working with Danny at Dept of Child Support Services. He was always my "go to" person for any technical problems as he never made me feel stupid and always solved my problems with a smile. I first met Danny about 13 years ago when he was the DJ who played at my daughters wedding-funny guy. His smile and laughter will be missed around here plus his little side kick-Spike. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. He will always have a place in my heart.
