Daniel T. Monte

BARRE - Daniel Thomas Monte, age 74, of East Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born in Burlington, on May 28, 1941, he was the son of Jose and Ruth (Brigham) Monte. On Aug. 28, 1965, he married Mary Ann McMorrow in St. Raphael's Church in Poultney.
Dan attended St. Monica Graded School and was a graduate of Spaulding High School (class of 1959). He graduated from the University of Vermont, where he was a proud member of Lambda Iota.
He obtained his law degree at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and became an attorney in 1966.
Dan achieved the rank of captain in the U.S. Army. He served with distinction in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star. After his military service, he joined the family law firm, Monte & Monte, in Barre, where he practiced for 44 years.
With his quick wit and keen sense of humor, Dan had a knack for making people laugh. He loved spending time with family and giving his grandchildren "the hairy eyeball." Dan also enjoyed watching sports on television. In his younger days, favorite pastimes included camping with his beloved wife and children at Lake Champagne in Randolph Center. In addition, Dan and his buddies enjoyed hunting from the school bus they renovated into a mobile camp known as "the Marshmallow."
Dan's memberships included St. Monica Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 790, American Legion Post #10, Elks Lodge 1535, the Barre Kiwanis Club, the Mutuo Inc. of Barre and the Knights of Columbus. Professional memberships included the American, Vermont and Washington County bar associations and serving as a charter member of the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association.
Survivors include his children, Diane Ruth Monte Solomon, of Barre Town; Michael David Monte and his wife, Stefanie, of Barre; Suzanne Maria Monte and her husband, Jon Solomon, of Barre; and Lt. Col. Jeffrey John Monte and his wife, Alexa, of Rockville, Maryland. Dan was "Bumpa" to five grandchildren: Jameson and Aiden Solomon, Jack Solomon, and Sophia, Nate and AJ Monte. Dan is also survived by his sister, Ellen Ramon, of Eagle Pass, Texas; his brother-in-law Michael McMorrow, of North Clarendon; his sister-in-law Patricia Ciardi and her husband, John, of West Haven, Connecticut; several nieces and nephews; and James Solomon, of Barre Town. He was predeceased by his wife, parents, brother John, twin brother David, and his father- and mother-in-law, James and Anna McMorrow.
Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2016. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Hope Cemetery. Extra parking is available at St. Monica's parking lot.
