Norma O'Brien Obituary

O'Brien, Norma OCEANSIDE -- It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Norma. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a very strong, independent, beautiful woman. She was called to heaven after her courageous battle with cancer on July 24th, 2014. She is survived by her two sons, Scott O'Brien (Elena), Shawn O'Brien (Julia); five grand children, Kristina, Kiersten, Kamryn , Jake and Shawn. She also leaves behind four siblings, Rusty Vardy (Sheri), Barbara Carter (Wendal), Billy Vardy (Barbara), Denise Colby (John); and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Norma loved to be spontaneous and adventurous. She enjoyed anything that involved her family and friends laughing and spending time together. Especially camping and traveling with the grandkids during summer. A private celebration of life will be planned in the near future.

Oh I am so sad to hear of my friend Norma's passing. I just knew something had happened and I tried so hard to find her.
I loved her and my family loved her as one of their own. You will be missed and loved forever.
I know you are with Aunt Pat and Uncle Jim...

It's already Aug. 14th and you wouldn't believe how many things I've come across that you would have loved. Yesterday I ate at Mickey's Diner in St. Pain. It's historical. You would have loved their food. I thought of you when I was there and of how much energy you would have had. Even though you were older than I was, you would drag me at a fast pace and I'd have a hard time keeping up. Today I'm going to Stillwater, picture that. You would be smiling. I miss you.

I'm really missing you today, Norma! Our daily phone calls were so important to us. I am forever grateful for the wonderful trip you took me on last summer. The memories of our lives as sisters will keep me strong. I know you are watching over us. May peace be with you always.

Our beloved Norma was called "home" too soon, maybe God needed a strong and loyal class act lady to help out. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her and that is everyone that ever met her. The memories flow of high school and beyond as she raised her family. I will always love Norma and will keep the Vardy/O'Brien family in my thoughts and prayers.

Norma.... My Big Sister. I always admired you! The way you would just "go" and "do it".... Jesus said, "I came that they might have life and have abundantly" You lived a full life... and it was abundant. You have left a wonderful legacy for all of us to build upon. As Sheri says, "We love you Aunt Norma Jumping Bean".... You were my childrens' Aunt Norma Jumping Bean. You were wonderful to me and Sheri! We love you! Our prayers are with Scott and Elena and Shawn and Julia and of course, all the O'brien grandchildren. Our condolences are with our family and Norma's Friends... Rusty Vardy

Thank you Scott and Shawn for such a true reflection of who your sweet Mother is. Though we are all saddened at her passing, we are grateful for her courageous battle and enduring to the end. I will continue to miss her, but have solace in knowing that she is pain free and at home. God bless you all for your unwavering love and devotion to my dear sister. We love you all, Uncle Billy and Aunt Barb ??
