BARRE TOWN - Solon Lawrence Bailey, age 12 and William (Liam) Theiler Bailey, age 10, both of Barre, passed away in a tragic house fire on Christmas morning. They had spent a wonderful Christmas Eve with their family, including Liam playing soccer and Solon playing piano for the family after dinner.

They both attended Barre Town Middle-Elementary School, with Solon in the seventh grade and Liam in the fourth grade.

Solon and Liam loved playing and listening to music, sledding, skiing and playing together and with their friends. They loved visiting with, learning from and traveling with their grandparents.

Solon began playing the piano when he was 6 and played classical piano for his instruction and recitals and started playing jazz with the school band. He enthusiastically navigated new computer programs and technology. Solon most enjoyed the outdoors and camping with family and with friends at Boy Scout and conservation camps. His passion for learning, sensitivity to others and subtle, mischievous sense of humor all characterize him.

Liam loved the competition, physical challenge and teamwork of soccer and especially loved playing with his Capital Soccer teams. He read avidly, particularly fantasy fiction. Liam loved playing the drums and recently started the French horn with the school band. His high energy, joyous approach to life, intensity, quick smile and humorous nature all made him "Liam."

They are survived their parents, Chris and Deanna Emberley Bailey; grandparents Irv and Cathy Bailey of Louisville, Nancy Bailey and Gary Herzberg of Bozeman, MT, Nancy Emberley and Jon Yarnalm of Shelburne and Bill Emberley and Karen Snyder of Alburg; aunts, Michele Bailey Thomas (Chip) and Meredith Hernandez; uncles, Chris Emberley (Karen), David Emberley (Susan), John Receveur and nine cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate their lives will be held at St. Francis in the Fields, 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road, Harrods Creek, Kentucky, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29. A visitation will follow. A memorial service and burial will be held in their home state of Vermont at a later date.

They will be dearly missed by their parents, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Beauregard Foundation: Solon and Liam Bailey Memorial Fund, c/o Chrysalis Ventures, 101 South 5th St., Suite 1650, Louisville, KY., 40202. Donations will be used for nonprofit, children's education programs in Central Vermont that were favorites of Solon and Liam.
