Lyle Luckenbill Obituary

MONTPELIER – Lyle H. Luckenbill, (Grammy,) devoted mother and mother-in-law of Sarah and Thomas Yefchak, Montpelier, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Born to Calvin and Altheda Houseknecht and raised in Hazleton, Pa., Lyle was a career woman, working as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and switchboard operator at White Haven Center until she retired in 1982.

In 1947, she married Robert Luckenbill. They were happily married until Bob's death in 1973. Everyone who ever met Grammy loved her and could see that she was a special person. She had a heart full of love and care for everyone she met and was always ready to lend a hand. Grammy had three grandsons of which she was so very proud, Thomas John Yefchak and Matthew Paul Yefchak of Montpelier and Robert Andrew Yefchak of Barre. The boys partners, Christie Latour and her daughter, Abigail, Karin O'Niel, and Nicki Westerman and her son Kalen were a special part of her life. She had two great grandchildren, Savannah Yefchak and Connor Yefchak who she loved with all her heart. They were a great source of joy to her in these last years of her life. In Vermont, she was everybody's Grammy. She had a special relationship with her New Jersey family, Harriet Luckenbill and her children and grandchildren. Her special friends from Pennsylvania, Alan and Arlene Thomas, Gino and Shirl Ferrari and Anna Yefchak will always remember the role that she played in their life.

She was a member of the Freeland Presbyterian Church, Freeland, Pa., and a friend of the Worcester Methodist Church. In her later days, she became an avid bird watcher with the help of her son-in-law who would keep the feeders filled just for her.

She will be sadly missed but the lessons she taught will always be remembered forever so we know she will live on.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held at the Worcester Methodist Church on Friday, April 23 at 11 a.m. and the Pennsylvania Freeland Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 26 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Conyngham Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Worcester United Methodist Church Youth Camp Fund.
