Eva Cassavoy Obituary

BARRE CITY - A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial and celebration of life for Eva A. Cassavoy, 97, of Batchelder Street, was held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. She passed away on Aug. 27, 2018.
The Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, former pastor of the church and a longtime family friend, was the celebrant, assisted by Rev. James Dodson, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Northfield.
Crucifer, Fred Letourneau, was altar server.
Organist and vocalist Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists Ronald Routhier, Paul Plante, Cece Barber, Patty George, and Pearl Bugbee in the hymns, "Be Not Afraid," "Allelulia," "I Am The Bread of Life," "You Are Near," "Son of Farewell" and "Amazing Grace."
Words of remembrance were shared by her son, Michael Cassavoy.
Scripture readings from the Old Testament were read by Robert Cassavoy, son; and Sue Stone, daughter, read from the New Testament.
Father Dodson read the gospel and Father Bilodeau delivered the homily.
Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by her great-grandchildren Andrew Cassavoy, Ben Cassavoy and Maggie Cassavoy.
Rev. Peter O'Leary, pastor of the church, led a prayer service, with the family Friday evening at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre. Father Bilodeau also led a prayer service Saturday morning.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren Frank Angelico, Pete Angelico, Gretchen Cassavoy, Martin Cassavoy, Joy Lewis and Mark Rochefort. Honorary bearers were Michele Bassir, Cara Cassavoy, Caroline Cassavoy, Heather Cassavoy, Jamie Cassavoy, Kristine Kelly and Terri-Ann Therrien, all grandchildren.
Burial followed the Mass, in Hope Cemetery in Barre where she was laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Father Bilodeau read the committal prayers and gave the final blessing.
Following the burial, family and friends gathered at the Steak House on the Barre- Montpelier Road for a time of fellowship and dinner.
Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, VT.

Hi Sheila,Bob and family, I was so sorry to hear about Eva. I remember her well. I first met her when she used to come into pay her electric bills at the GMP office in Barre and then in later years seeing her at your house in East Montpelier around the Christmas holidays. Eva was a beautiful kind lady and I always will remember her. She had a wonderful life and family. All my best to you.

Eva was the inspiration for me when I joined the Senior Center exercise program a few years back. She would come in carrying fresh water for us. Having moved away I had not seen her for a few years. She was such a delight. May she Rest In Peace. My sympathy to the family.
