Dorothy Cook Obituary
Dorothy D Cook, (Dot) an 18 year resident of Niwot, CO, passed away January 2, 2019. She was 90 years of age. She died of respiratory failure. Dot was predeceased by her husband, William Hallie Cook, Jr, and is survived by her daughters Valerie Graham and Gwynn Cook, son-in-law, Gregory Graham, all of CO, her grandchildren Jennifer Imada of CA, Ryan Graham, Alison Waara and step grandson Michael Waara, all of CO. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Arthur Dugas and survived by her siblings Helen Lindsey, Sylvia Delahoussaye, Emma Cunningham, Kenneth Dugas, Charles Dugas and Connie Ballard. Dorothy was born in Lacassine LA to Eli and Leona Joubert Dugas. She had the distinction of graduating valedictorian and being a member of the state champion basketball team at Lacassine High School in 1945. Dot then graduated from the University of Southern Louisiana valedictorian, summa cum laude, with a degree in chemistry. She furthered her education at CU Boulder with a degree in pharmacy. She practiced her profession primarily at Walgreens Pharmacy. In 1957 she married W. Hallie Cook, Jr. Dot resided the majority of her life in Westlake, LA with her husband and daughters. During the following decades she pursued her love for travel. She and Hallie with their children traveled the country each year focusing on the National and State Parks within the continental US and throughout Canada. In later years Dot and Hallie furthered their extensive travels to include countries in South America, Asia, and Australia. Dot and Hallie also enjoyed mineral and gem collecting. Other interests of Dot's were conversational French, singing, and gardening. She participated in several conversational French groups and choirs at her church and in the community. Dot was a generous friend, loving mother, and devoted wife. She will be missed by all who knew her and we consider ourselves honored and blessed she was in our lives. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, 2:00 pm, January 19, 2019 in the chapel at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, 9447 Niwot Rd, Niwot, CO. The service will be followed by a reception.
