NIEDJALSKI, Catherine (nee Hercus) passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2018, beside her beloved husband of 45 years, Larry (Spud). Cathie (Grammy) recounted happy memories, surrounded by her loving family, throughout her last days under the care of the ever-so-kind and thoughtful doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. Cathie was an elementary school teacher at Richmond, McKenzie, Quadra, Rockheights and Torquay, with a passion for teaching kids to read and building their confidence. One of her favourite learning opportunities was 100 Mistakes, where students would tally up Mrs. Niedjalski's mistakes to 100 and then Spud would deliver ice cream cones, demonstrating that everyone makes mistakes and they should be celebrated. Bingo was another popular classroom treat, with many themes such as Canada, Halloween and Christmas. Grammy travelled a lot with her family, watching her sons and grandkids cannonball into pools, enjoying takeout dinners in pajamas and playing games like Feed the Kitty and Put and Take. Grammy was a huge supporter of her family, being a dedicated sports fan, scorekeeper and audience member, and had a well-stocked craft room that she enjoyed with her grandchildren. At Cathie's request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Cathie to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
