David Evans (aka 'Big Dave') played a very important part in my life as a much-trusted advisor and mentor during my tenure in the PhD program at Western (1983-1990). He could always be counted on for support during trying times. His dry sense of humour never failed to keep me focused on what was important and on moving forward. It is because of Dave, that I eventually became a university professor. Interestingly, a number of years ago, when I asked him if he was surprised that I became a professor: his response was "yes, I am surprised but I'm proud as well". Although we lost touch over the past few years, I have held onto these precious words as reminders of his caring and support. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Margaret, and his family at this time of loss.
