Donald ANDREWS

ANDREWS, Donald Heslop Passed away July 12, 2012, at the Victoria Hospice with Lorna, his wife of 51 years, at his side. He was born to Tom and Nan Andrews on July 31, 1925, in Armstrong, BC. Don was born to build: when given 25 cents at age 6 and asked if he would buy candy, he replied "heck no, nails". He enlisted in the BC Dragoons on his 18th birthday. Following WWII and graduation from UBC, he spent 28 happy years at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, studying the stars, and designing and building instrumentation. Don loved his family, including his big dog Jake, his home workshop, music, and reading about science and mathematics. He is survived by his wife Lorna, son Rick, daughter Susan Trice (Frank), sister-in-law Beth Bowden and many cousins. The family thanks all those who gave such compassionate care during Don's long illness, especially Dr's Kachan and Wilson, the Cancer Clinic staff, the Palliative Care Team and the Hospice staff.
