Elizabeth Foster Obituary

FOSTER, Elizabeth (Ella) nee Scroggie It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth Melvin Foster, on Aug 11, 2009, two days before her 96 birthday. Ella was born in Victoria on Aug. 13, 1913 to James and Sarah Scroggie. She was the second of four children. The Scroggie family, homesick for friends and family returned to Scotland in 1919 where Ella began her schooling. The family later returned to Victoria and Ella then attended Oaklands Public School and Victoria High School. Ella's first job was with the City Health department. In 1940 Ella married the love of her life, Phil Foster. She was predeceased by Phil in 1970. She was also predeceased by her sister Margaret as well as her brother Douglas. Left to mourn for her is her youngest brother Cliff Scroggie, and many nieces and nephews on both the Scroggie and the Foster sides. In 1958, B.C.'s 100th birthday, The Provincial Government sponsored a Vintage Car run from Fernie to Victoria. Phil and Ella were the only ones to drive from Victoria to Fernie and back in their 1912 Model T Ford. Phil named the car Elizabeth" and it now resides in the Provincial Museum in Victoria. Ella was a constant companion of Jamie and Linda Scroggie. We would like to thank Dr. Houston and the staff at Selkirk Place for the loving care she received. There will be no service by request. Her sweet nature and kind ways as well as her terrific sense of humour will be sadly missed 558576

I would like to extend my condolences and warm thoughts of a lovely lady, my Aunt Ella Foster.
Unfortunately, living in the U.S.A, the past 60 years,we did not visit her as much as we would have liked, but I would like to share a wonderful memory of back in 1969.

My sister Heather and I called on her and Uncle Phil at their home. Ella proudly showed Heather her wonderful doll collection and Phil gave me a tour of his historic car collection. We then sat down for a beautiful English tea. (or maybe Scottish.)
I will always remember her "impish" little smile and wonderful zest for life.

Sincerely, Alan Aylwin, Tacoma, Washington.

I met Phil and Ella in the early 60s and became an instant friend. She was a delightful person to be around and not only shared Phil's love of antique cars but enjoyed her own hobby of collecting rare and valuable dolls from around the world. I will always remember her.
