Dear Mariana,
I was very sorry to hear of Florin's passing. We met only occaisionally while serving on mathematical committees together but I found him to be a warm and loving person with a gentle sense of humour and an appreciation of what life really means. I know that you and your family will miss him deeply.

I am deeply saddenned by the passing of Florin. I knew him for many years. He was an outstanding mathematician, scientist, and author. He was a great human being. I will miss him.

Florin generously volunteered his Friday evenings to coach the tennis team at Yale-NUS. In the time he was with us, he imparted his broad understanding of both technique and strategy; one could feel Florin's passion for the game just by listening to him speak.
Last week, our team placed first in an annual collegiate tournament. At practices, members of the team were touched by his coaching each in our own way, and I'd like to think that his strength carried us through to victory.
His time with us was much too brief, but his presence will be deeply missed. Our sincerest condolences.

Mariana, I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of my friend Florin. Words cannot express the grief I felt upon learning about his death.
Florin was incredible as a person - as a scientist and mathematician, and in private. He was always sought deep understanding, and I really enjoyed discussions with him.
Our group will never forget your visit to our Bose National Centre in last December. Difficult times, like this, can be very painful, but I pray to god to give you strength, and power to endure this tragic moment.

To Florin's family: I am inexpressibly sorry for your loss, and feel deeply saddened, for myself and everyone in the college, that our time with Florin was short. I truly looked forward to more conversations with him, having very much enjoyed the few that we had. I took one class with Florin and he quickly became one of my favourite professors. He has a big heart and is a wonderful lecturer. I was so shocked and sad to read he passed. He was too young and right after Robert Steacy too... the math department must be grieving heavily this year.

Dear Marina and Razvan,
I did not know Professor Diacu for long. But in the time that I did, he severely touched my life. In his official capacity as the Head of Studies for MCS, he set the direction for my Senior Capstone Project. In his voluntary capacity as Coach of the Yale-NUS Tennis Team, he helped improve my forehand and backhand technique. I always enjoyed hearing him strategize about points and matches.
Professor Diacu will be missed immensely, and his legacy will surely live on. I offer my condolences for your loss.

Florin's tenure at Yale-NUS College has been way too brief but he came across as an impressive scholar and as a wonderful academic and human being.
He had started learning Chinese towards providing a modern translation of a classical mathematical text, he created a new course on the history of mathematics, and he engaged himself administratively in a level-headed way.
It was a sight to see Mariana and him zooming about as they were exploring Singapore on their electric scooters or as he was heading to a tennis court.
We miss him.

Florin and I both joined UVic faculty at the same time, in 1991. Florin was an esteemed colleague; I have always enjoyed our interactions over the years, and will remember his kindness and his energy. He will be sorely missed. I am very sorry for your loss.

I got to know Florin through serving with him for 3 years recently on the NSERC Discovery grant panel. He was such a gentle and wise soul, and I very much enjoyed going to dinners with him during our time in Ottawa. I am so very sorry for your loss.

A sharp intellect, an open mind, a reliable friend and not the least a very jovial figure at the parties, Florin was a mentor that we always looked up to.
