A brilliant scholar, good friend and colleague. My wife Ruth and I offer sincere consolation to his wife, Ruth, and family. His collaboration and participation in the conferences of the International Association for Relativistic Dynamics will be much missed. Dr. Cooperstock was my physics professor at UVic in 1977&78. He taught us Classical Mechanics, General Relativity, and a love and appreciation for both.

Dr. Cooperstock talked me out of dropping honours physics to work in the lumber yard in my 3rd year, and instead sent me off to my first job interview with Amoco. I have Fred Cooperstock directly to thank for a career in geophysics that spanned 38 years, allowed my wife and I to live and travel all over the world, and provided a comfortable upbringing for our 2 boys.....the oldest who graduated from UVic in 2016!

Thank-you Dr Cooperstock, for your common sense advice, your inspirational teaching, and your great sense of humour.

We have known each other for over half a century when we both took the Queen Anna Maria to Israel in 1966. He was a wonderful person, whom I'm happy to have crossed "geodesic" paths with.

Professor Cooperstock now lives in the Big University in the Sky, as he used to say.
It was a privilege to have met and worked with him, from whom I learned a lot.

My condolences to Ruth and their family.

Professor Cooperstock will one day be vindicated for his work on galactic rotation curves, IMO the most important and consequential work in gravitation since that of Einstein himself. He will be missed.

A passionate teacher and ever the skeptical scientist, I'll always remember Fred as being quick with a smile and a joke - and one who helped make physics so enjoyable. The thoughts and prayers of many are with you.

I knew Fred when he was very young- maybe early teens. We were both from Winnipeg. Fred was an excellent photographer even then. In fact he took our wedding pictures! We didn't see each other for many years but I kept informed through other family. Condolences to Fred's family. He was a wonderful accomplished man. Harvey Feingold
