This comes rather late, considering that Gerry died in 2019. I sent him an email in 2016, a catch- up message on behalf of my brother David who wasn't computer savvy. We both knew Gerry at UCLA, where David ran track. They were good friends and Gerry was instrumental in my taking over his job (live-in, gardening) with a Mr. Forest in Beverly Hills. Although I didn't know him as well as my brother, I liked Gerry, who had a keen sense of humour. I was sorry not to hear from Gerry in 2016 but only recently have found out the reason why. David too has Parkinson's. My condolences to Gerry's widow Kathy.

My husband Norm Chouinard and I only found out yesterday (October 14th, 2020) that Gerry had passed away nearly one year ago. We were shocked that we had missed hearing this very sad news. We knew Gerry from our time working in the Physical Education Department at the University of Victoria (1989-1991) and then later from encounters with him at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Who could not love Gerry....he was captivating with his charming smile, his incredible gentleness and his commitment to health and fitness. We feel blessed to have known him, to have spent some time with him and Cathy and to have been the recipient of one of his landscape paintings that hangs in our home. We are thinking now of Gerry’s family and friends and will treasure our memories of Gerry and all he added to make our world a kinder and better place. R.I.P.

Luckily I also knew this gracious man although many years ago. The gentleness and sensitivity of this beautiful man was remarkable and no doubt the reasons, his students loved him.. Condolences to Catherine, his loving wife. I feel lucky to have known him. Martha Menzies

Meeting Gerry and becoming friends for most than half a century was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I have a treasure trove of stories and have had an opportunity to be with Gerry as he navigated some of the most difficult challenges of life with tenacity, courage, and resilience. I'll miss you my friend.

I was very sorry to read of Gerry's passing. Although our paths hadn't crossed for many years I still treasure the memories of drywalling our basement with him - what a laugh that was!
My condolences to his family.
