SLEIVERT, Dr. Gordon Grant Oct.20/63 Apr.2/12 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Gord. He will be unbelievably missed by his wife Kari and their 3 children Ben, Brianne and Lachlan, as well as his mom Heather (Joe) Frackson, his sisters Cindy (Kevin) Montgomery and April (Dan) Lagasse. In laws Bob and Yvonne Higginbottom, Shelly and Steve Akam, and Jodi and Stuart Guilbault. Nieces and nephews Lindsay, Paige, Jacob, Kurtis and Julina. Gord was predeceased by his father Doug. He also leaves many friends and colleagues too numerous to list. Gord's amazing accomplishments began with the completion of his PhD at UVic as an Exercise Physiologist in 1994. With that he carried on to work as a Professor at both the University of Otago in New Zealand and UNB in New Brunswick. From there he moved back to Victoria to complete his career with CSC Pacific where his visions thrived. Among the many highlights of working with CSC he was honored to be part of the Olympic movement in both the 2004 Athens Games and the 2008 Beijing Games. Gord's proudest achievement was being a dad to Ben, Brianne and Lachlan and this pride shone through in everything he did with them. From coaching their teams to volunteering as a Minor Hockey Executive, including President, he was always there for his kids. Boating, fishing and golf were some of his favorite pastimes which he taught his kids to love too. He always looked forward to his special times on Gabriola Island where many fond memories were created with his family. Gord was a person who loved life. His infectious smile, laugh and personality affected everyone who knew him. He has truly left a huge void in many peoples' lives. Gord's family would like to thank the CSC Pacific Staff, especially Wendy Pattenden. A celebration of Gord's Life will be held on Thursday, April12, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at PISE 4371 Interurban Rd. I chose working for Gord over living in the same country as my husband - that should say something about the type of person, leader, boss and fried he was. I feel so incredibly blessed to have had the gift of knowing such an incredible leader and was inspired every day by his tireless drive to build sport in Canada and his devotion to his staff.

As a boss ... Gord gave me the freedom, support, advice and enthusiasm to develop professionally beyond what I ever thought possible within a few short years of being a dietitian.
As a leader ... Gord was the perfect leader in my mind. He provided the building blocks and support systems to allows his staff to drive sport in Canada forward. He had faith in his staffs' ability and expertise which allowed each of us to develop both professionally and personally.
As a VP ... Gord's ability to manage an insanely huge number of projects and staff blew me away every day. He did it with a smile on his face, always made time to chat and never showed an ounce of stress.
As a friend ... Gord genuinely cared about the well being of each of his staff and continually worked towards helping us reach a healthy work life balance. He always made the time to help me make decisions about school, education and special projects and provided heart felt advice that helped me make some of the toughest decision in my life. He was the only person who could have helped me make decision about grad school oversees and I am truly thankful for his time in helping me make a decision that would have such a huge impact on my career and life.

Gord was the best boss anyone could ever ask for (and I have actually said this about once a week in various conversations since 2009) and has done more for me professionally and personally that I could ever express. He supported me and given me the freedom to establish myself a a nutrition professional in sport and the confidence to pursue grad school. He one of the key players responsible for driving our medal count up and elevating sport in Canada. We have truly lost a legend and as CSCP staff past and present I know he has inspired us to carry on this legacy through our work.

The last email I received from Gord said “Thanks Dana.” I wish it was the other way around “Thanks Gord” for being one of the truly amazing people that you get the rare gift to have in your life. I thank you for all you have taught me and your contagious confidence, modesty, passion and smile.

Keep an eye on us here and make sure we doing a great job.
