Ina Spreitz Obituary

SPREITZ, Ina (nee Schaffer) In Memory and recognition of Ina Spreitz (Schaffer) recently passed away in Victoria. A noted athlete in her home country of Austria, Ina rarely spoke of her achievements. Ine Schaffer (Mayer von Bojana) was honored champion of Austria for track and field events: throwing, javelin, and discus in 1943 and in Germany, second in 1943. Between 1943 and 1950 she beat the record of Austria five times. In 1948 she won the national titles. At the Olympic Games of 1948 in London, she won the Bronze Medal, beating the national record. Ina immigrated to Canada in 1952, and taught physical education in British Columbia. In later life Ina was a loving guardian to the animal pets and gardens of many friends. Ina was our good friend and neighbour. She will be missed. 535140
