Jenny PIKE

Obituary

PIKE Jenny Inez (Whitehead) July 23, 1922 - April 19, 2004 Jenny passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospice with her son and daughter at her side. Mom approached her death the way she approached life - with dignity, courage, laughter and surrounded by love. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donovan (1977); brothers, Merrill and Glen; and sister, Margaret. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Jim (Robin); grandsons, Andrew and Duncan; and her daughter, Susan (Keith Wendorf); as well as a sister-in-law, Shirley (Keith Hall); numerous nieces and a nephew; and many many friends. Mom will be remembered with a camera always in hand. A passion for photography that began in childhood led to a career with the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) in London during WWII. She was proud to have developed some of the first photos of the D-Day landings. In later life, Mom worked for the Victoria City Police Identification Unit and was also sought after to photograph numerous weddings, installations and other ceremonial functions over the years. Leadership and volunteer service were an important part of Jenny's life. She was an active member of the M.O.A., Ex-WRENS, Royal Canadian Legion, Daughters of the Nile, Victoria Pentax Camera Club and The United Church. The family is very thankful for the compassionate care from the staff of the Quick Response Team, Palliative Response Team and the Victoria Hospice Society. Flowers gratefully declined. Those wishing may make a donation in Jenny's name to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 1529 Cedar Avenue, Montreal, Quebec, H3G 1A6. Funeral service will be held at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson &Vancouver Streets, on Friday, April 23, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Margaret Harper will be officiating.
