John RIGBY Obituary

RIGBY John Thomas was taken suddenly from us on July 10, 2002. He was born on March 19, 1952 in Wainwright, Alberta but spent most of his life in Victoria, B.C. He began a musical career at age four when he exhibited a natural ability for theviolin. John studied classical music and achieved numerous accomplishments and awards. He was invited to play in the National Youth Orchestra in Toronto at seventeen and at nineteen he won the congress of Strings which enabled him to study at the University of California under well renown conductors. John then began a journey of exploration into all aspects of music and taught himself to play other instruments. He played with several bands, establishing life long relationshipswith many friends. His health began to deteriorate at 25 and eventually he received a kidney transplant. Fighting an uphill battle with his health he pursued his musical career. He inspired others with his love for humanity. His passion for music touched the hearts of those who heard him play his violin. His deteriorating health did not stop him from cherishing the simple but meaningful things in life and his spirit reached the hearts of many. John was predeceased by his Dad, Tom Rigby in November, 2000. He is lovingly remembered by his family; daughter Melissa; mother Anastacia: sister Nancy (Bruce) Colegrave, nephews Robert (Tami) and Jonathan (Laveena) Brown and his aunts and cousinsin Canada and England. Also left to grieve is his companion Carol and all his wonderful friends, many of whom he called brother. At Johns request there will be no funeral. Flowers gratefully declined but if so desired, donations in Johns memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Victoriawould be welcomed.

I have so many great memories of all the fun we had growing up in Victoria and in East Sooke. He is truly missed by all who knew him.
