Kathleen Yukiko Petersen (nee Minato) passed away on May 26, 2018; at dawn, surrounded by birdsong and loved ones.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, siblings (Julie, Edwin and Roger) and her husband, Bruce Petersen.

Kathy is survived by her son Sean (Stephanie), daughter Kisae (David), grandsons Jared and Liam, and her loving partner John Shaw and his sons, Conor and Christopher. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and a large circle of life-long friends.

Kathy was a high school teacher and enjoyed teaching art, French and Japanese. She had a passion for languages and enjoyed learning new phrases on her travels in Europe, Cuba and Hawaii. Kathy was also a talented artist, especially with pencil drawings and water colours. She also spent time in nature, gardening, crafts and loved a good mystery.

Kathy's friends and family will miss her deeply, as her love, generosity and laughter were always present. Her unforgettable smile and laughter will shine in our memories as we remember her beautiful and loving self.

Kathy's family wishes to thank her fantastic doctors - Dr. Tom Rimmer, Dr. Wei, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Joe and Dr. Masuta. Any donations can be made in Kathy's memory to Cowichan Valley Hospice Society, BC Cancer Foundation or a local SPCA.
