Len Rowcliffe Obituary

March 22, 1929 to December 15, 2017

Len died unexpectedly in Ottawa one year ago. Len was a well-known radio announcer in Montreal, CKVL, CFCF, and CJAD, Toronto, CKFH, and Victoria, CFMS and CFAX. He was a true pro who did it all on the radio: easy listening jazz (his passion), celebrity and on the street interviews, news, phone-ins, a garden show and was the first Trafficopter reporter. Many listeners enjoyed his good humoured, well-informed, classy, yet informal, style. He was an early advocate against air pollution and volunteered his talents for many charities. His retirement years were happily spent travelling with his wife Joyce who misses him dearly and is fondly remembered by his family, friends and former colleagues.

My sincere condolences to the family of Len Rowcliffe, a great radio personality and a valued friend and colleague. It was a pleasure to produce Len's Roving Reporter broadcast each weekday morning at the Empress Hotel. His casual, professional manner was welcomed by those he interviewed and the listening public. Thanks for the memories, Len.

Look up "class act" in any dictionary, and there's Len's picture. Working with him at CFMS in the early 80's was a treat and he tried (oh, did he try) to get me to follow his example. Len Rowcliffe was the real deal - a genuine pro.
