I just found out about Peter's passing. My deepest condolences to his family. Peter helped my partner and I with a successful immigration application while Darcy was starting her family. He inspired confidence with his attention to detail and easy manner. It was with surprising sorrow that I reacted to the news of his passing. I didn't know him very well other than through our meetings for our application but his lovely presence and easy going manner obviously left a deep impression.

I'm so very sorry he left this world so soon. His legacy of activism and work for social justice don't surprise me. When a life is measured by the positive difference it makes in the world, then it is a life that lives on in those it touched. Thank you, Peter, for the legacy you leave your family and those you have helped.

From the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid: Peter gave much, quietly and thoughtfully, to organizations and causes like ours in Victoria. His presence at our rallies and events always added something special, as both a kind man and someone with world recognized credentials in human rights. His lawyer's mind and deeply held beliefs made for many great conversations. We will miss you and your support Peter. CAIA Victoria.

Condolences to the Golden Family.
I first met Peter in the early 1980s, I so much admired his intellect, sense of humor, and his compassion for the downtrodden and exploited.
He inspired many of us to pursue social justice and activism and always fight for what we believe to be right.
He was a good man, and he will be missed!

Dear Charlotte and family.

I deeply admired Peter for both his gentle manner and his fierce commitment to social justice. In his own quiet way, he made an enormous difference in the lives of so many people not only in our community of Victoria but in other parts of our world as well.

He was a fine lawyer and a light in sometimes dark world. His commitment to those less fortunate and to those struggling to find their way to safety in Canada are legacies that will never be forgotten.

I send my condolences in your time of sorrow.

Hi Charlotte, I am extremely sad to learn that Peter did not beat the cancer, and I wish you and your larger family all the best during this difficult time. Peter was one of the most grounded, kind, and inspiring people of my life. Even though most of our time together was relatively limited, and from almost 3 decades ago, his ability to truly listen to others and to make people feel at ease, especially through his wonderful sense of humour, has often been an important touchstone for me. Sincerely, David

My condolences to Peter's family, friends, clients, and our legal community. Peter was tremendously well respected as a highly competent and ethical lawyer, and was very well liked and highly spoken of. In my 14 years as a member of the immigration bar, I have heard many positive comments about him and never heard a single negative one. I am sorry he is gone.

I am very sad to read of Peter's passing. He had a talent for compassion of which I was a beneficiary. He modeled the best in the practice of law as a service to people in need of social justice. I will miss him greatly.

We have lost a number of friends and colleagues at the Bar this year. Peter's loss is especially sad as he, like Bob Jones, was a gentleman in the noblest sense of the word. He was a passionate and compelling advocate. He was honorable and completely trustworthy. His loss will be felt most keenly by his family, but they will also had the honour of having best know this courageous and compassionate man. Rest in peace, Peter.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Peter's passing. My thoughts are with his family at this time. I have known Peter for 26 years. I have been on both the same, and opposite sides of many files with him. Peter was always a gentleman in either role. He will be greatly missed.

Peter's is a life that should be celebrated. It would be high praise indeed for it to be said of anyone that she or he is as good a human being as Peter Golden. We are very lucky to have had him in our lives.

Peter has left us with great memories of talks over meals we enjoyed together with him and Charlotte, his sense of humour, especially his knack for puns and keying into the ironies of current events. Over a period of more than 30 years we shared in his concern for the struggles of humanity and often discovered each other in the streets of Victoria at the same rallies and marches for various social justice causes.

Together with his wonderful family and friends we grieve his passing. And together with his family and friends we celebrate Peter's life, the person he was, and his significant contributions. His life and work made a real difference in this world. We will truly miss him.

My friend and comrade Peter Golden, Pedro Dorado, how I used to called him, was a man that used his intellect and profession to save lives and make our world a bit better. I know personally of friends and comrades that would not be alive today if it wasn't for Peter's representation in front of tribunals, courts and other legal institutions.
Peter could have easily chosen a life of comfort, free of worries, away from the dramas and tragedies that humans have imposed on each other, but no, he chose human rights and the defence of those that needed help.
His name and solidarity actions are a gift to humanity, a tribute to the best that humans can offer to other humans. I am deeply touched by his departure and I will miss his witty sense of humour and of course,....the occasional ping pong game.
In Latin America, when a comrade leaves our world, we invoke his name and announcing thus to the world that he is present in us and in our continuous struggle for equality and social justice: COMPANERO PETER GOLDEN, PRESENTE!!!

Peter was truly one of the most remarkable men I have ever met. He was a fierce and loyal advocate for those people unfortunate enough to have to flee unimaginable hardship and danger - people who arrived in Canada as refugees. As a fellow board member with the Victoria Coalition for Survivors of Torture, I witnessed Peter's special ability to bring a levity and humor to situations that were tragic and heart-wrenching; and yet he always did so in ways that respected the humanity of all involved. I was honored and pleased to know Peter Golden.
