Sorry to hear that John has passed , its so difficult to say goodbye, yet such a relief to see that a loved one is not in pain or distress anymore . John was always larger than life, growing up at the VRA he was so respected when he came to shoe horses for the Carleys , he could easily handle any of the horses, which were not always .....mmmmm...... well behaved for the farrier. I remember being quite intimidated by John , most of us kids were. It wasnt until later years, I realized just how much he liked to tease us kids, and that twinkle in his eye and his Cheshire Cat grin was his great sense of humour. I am sorry that I wont be able to attend the celebration of life, Im sure that it will be a great day reminiscing about a life well lived .

I bought my heart horse, Molly from John and he was my farrier before he even went to farrier school. I was one of his first customers. He introduced me to Garden City Horsemen's Club and the 100 Mile ride. As a horse crazy teenager, he was my mentor. Condolences to his family, Joe, Annalise and their families. RIP, John, over the rainbow bridge and reunite with those who have crossed before you.

John was so kind to me and helped me with my first pony and my daughters . I remember so many stories from the time he made us the smallest sliders for Violet to the time he came over to find Montana standing in four buckets of hot water because I didn't know which hoof was abcessed. He laughed so hard and said I was lucky to have such a sweet mare. He volunteered his time to put on a blacksmithing demonstration for my children's classroom farm field trip. Such an amazing farrier. Condolences to his family. I truly am so sorry for your loss.

I too will miss him. He definitely was a character - larger than life itself. He was my friend's farrier but I was usually there when he did her horse's feet so I got to know him a little bit. Condolences to his family.

I met John 34 years ago. I brought him in on a difficult case with my mare because I'd consulted with Dr. Reed and he said, I needed to get John for corrective shoeing. John helped make her sound. He was my farrier after that and family friend. He fixed Max's founder twice that made him a bonafide hero. He would help you if you were in need, when Max broke his leg in Beaver Lake park I called John hysterical on the phone and he grabbed a trailer and came to find us. Max didn't make it but the generosity of John and Anne throughout my life was never lost to me. I have a million more John Wayne McLean stories. He fixed my horses, tack and blankets. He had many talents and his advice was always sound. John was a hero. I'll miss him.

Sincere condolences to Joe and all the family, so sorry to hear of John's passing, he was our farrier for nearly thirty years, his knowledge and expertise concerning horses was unsurpassed. I used to enjoy the long chats and listening to his stories after he was finished with the hooves. Thanks for all your help over the years Big John, you will be fondly remembered.

Always enjoyed being invited in for a coffee and a chat with John, he was willing to help with advice whether you wanted it or not. I learned he meant well,I respected him for that. I appreciated him taking the time with me. He was quick to grab my knifes, and give them a good sharpening, and always gave a friendly wave when passing by. Condolences.
