Richard Seabrook Obituary

SEABROOK, Richard Walter March 1, 1941 March 18, 2010 We sadly announce that our beloved father and husband passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Thursday March 18. His loving and devoted wife, Grace (nee Loewen), and children, Sherwood (Cheyenne) and Libby, will fondly remember Richard for his jovial sense of humor and unending dedication to his family. Richard was born in Winnipeg, the only child of Edna & Dick Seabrook. Following graduation from Gordon Bell in '59 he was recruited by Price Waterhouse where he completed his Chartered Accountancy degree in 1964. Richard and Grace married in 1968 and company transfers brought them to Victoria in 1970. In 1977 Richard, side-stepping further transfers, set up private practice with Jim English, joined by Jim Pringle in 1989. Richard was very proud of his accounting firm "ESP" and relished every opportunity to provide comic relief, to the delight of all. Richard actively supported his community as treasurer 1970-77 for Greater Victoria Scouting and as board member of YM/YWCA for nine years, 1985-87 as president and two years on the Y's National Board. He was an avid runner and completed four marathons. His involvement in the development of the Royal Victoria Marathon brought him much satisfaction. From its inception in 1980 he was keenly involved and was Race Director 1988-92. Richard loved board games, always had the latest at hand the more complicated, the better and spent many happy hours playing them with his kids and their friends. He took an early interest in computers, his office always equipped with the most current innovations. We offer our deepest thanks to Richard's many doctors, nurses, caregivers for their care and compassion during his prolonged struggle with heart failure. He will be deeply missed by his family, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Runners of Compassion, P.O. Box 5503, Victoria, B.C.,V8R 6S4 or YM/YWCA, 851 Broughton Street, Victoria BC V8W 1E5. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Sunday, March 28, 1-3pm at the Marriott Hotel, 728 Humboldt Street in Victoria 582920

Hi,

My name is Michael and I was, happily, Libby's partner for four years. We eventually went our separate ways, but remain friends.

Richard welcomed me into his life like family, which was kind of new to me. I saw Richard on his last evening here and I was not scared nor upset. I was just so grateful that I got to meet and be part of Richards life for a short time. Richard helped me incredibly in my own life and he probably didn't even know his impact on me.

Richard was always quick with a joke, loved watching sports, played a wicked hand of hearts, loved Neil Young, still listened to Jack FM at 67 and enjoyed the many episodes of Just For Laughs Gags in which he was in stitches witnessing some of the ridiculous pranks they pulled. LOL.

Richard is a great example of what a family man is. He provided for his family in a way that I had not witnessed myself growing up and that had an impact on me.

Thank you Richard, Grace, Libby, Sherwood and Cheyenne for allowing me to be part of your lives.

With the passing of Richard, the Loewen family has lost another treasured "outlaw". Richard's cheery personality will be missed at the family gatherings...which, sadly, were all too infrequent. He always "brought a lot to the table". Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Grace and the family. Love...Jim Loewen
