We are devastated by the loss of Bob, our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He died nearly two weeks after suffering a sudden massive stroke. Bob is survived by his wife Nancy; his children Kevin, Becky (partner Marc), Ananda Umar (spouse Bobby), and Curran; his step-children Heather, Stephen, and Glenn Mackay; his grandchildren Josephine & Graysen Dobbswall, Nyal & Ryah Umar, Kayla Mackay & Conner Pearce, and Logan & Jordann Mackay; his brothers Dennis and Rick (spouse Pam); his first wife Eileen (spouse Neill); and numerous other family members and friends, including the community of the First Unitarian Church of Victoria. He is predeceased by his son Colin, his brother Steve and Dennis' wife Betty. Bob was a provider, advisor and guardian to many. His greatest joy was to nurture and serve others, especially his kids and grandkids. He did whatever he could to ensure we all felt loved, safe and comfortable. He cooked feasts, baked pies, played Santa, researched solutions, fixed shelves, edited documents, wrote cheques and opened his home to everyone. Bob had a long career with Forestry Canada and retired early to spend his last two decades with family, travel and serving the Unitarian Church. He celebrated his 40th anniversary to his beloved Nancy, and his 80th birthday with his family late last year. In lieu of flowers, please offer a gift to a humanitarian charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at First Unitarian Church of Victoria. http://victoriaunitarian.ca/

Dear Nancy... I heard today of Bob's passing from Brian Tremblay in Toronto. Brian said he hadn't seen you or Bob for 40 years but was thinking of Bob and looked him up on the internet to see he passed. So sorry for your loss... Gordon Sheridan your old buddy from Camosun College drama school days!!

I worked with Bob in forestry and it was a pleasure to witness his commitment to his colleagues and to getting the tasks at hand dealt with in productive and positive ways. Rarely an easy balance. Bob was a good man and I am glad I had the opportunity to share time with him.

I hope for gentle thoughts for his family at this trying time.

Although I only recently met Bob I am impressed with his devotion to the Unitarian Church. His commitment was so vast it embodied the word LOVE. During our life we do not see how the ripple caused by a drop stone expands into eternity. Bob created beautiful ripples through his loving ways with family, community that spread heavenly music. This is a chant: I CARRY YOU ALWAYS IN MY HEART,
ALL LIFE IS A CIRCLE,
AND WE ARE ALL TOGETHER,
LIKE STONES DROPPED IN THE WATER,
WE RIPPLE OUT FOREVER.
Sending Love & Light to my Friend Nancy, I am missing YOU. Jewel

Love to my Aunt Nancy and cousins. My heart is breaking for you. What a wonderful uncle I had, I'm so grateful to have had so many special family memories with all of our Dobbs family. I know that my mom was there to welcome uncle Bob into heaven. She had so much love and respect for him, like we all did. I feel so very fortunate to have had a wonderful visit with him a year ago. His presence made all of us feel better when we celebrated my mom's life. Warm hugs to all of you from California. May his memory be eternal.
