Ron VERRALL Obituary

VERRALL, Ron September 29, 1941 - April 21, 2014 Ronald Ian Verrall was born in Winnipeg and grew up on a farm southwest of the city. The skills and resourcefulness he learned on the farm stood him in good stead for life; he could build and repair almost anything. He loved life, learning, and good times with friends and family. He always had fun. He worked as a research scientist for over thirty years at DREP in Victoria and really enjoyed his interesting and varied experiences there and in the Arctic. His wife Jennifer, daughters Jane and Helen, son-in-law Peter Say, sister Barb Parke and extended family invite you to join them in a celebration of Ron's life on Thursday, May 8, 2014, 4-7pm at the Fleet Club, 1587 Lyall St.

Over the years Ron made several wonderful contributions to our Joint Arctic Weather stations web site documenting his work in the High Arctic. I was in touch with him in the past couple of years about the work he had done on the history of DRB. We had hoped he could have participated as a speaker at one of our Friends of the Communications Research Centre (CRC) meetings but, sadly, that was not to be. On behalf of both the JAWS website group and the Friends of CRC we would like to extend our condolences to the family.

Dear Jennifer, I hope today's memorial will celebrate adequately Ron's full life. I am sad that I won't be there to celebrate with you, but you know I a with you all in spirit. I can hear the Scott Joplin rags and know they will bring smiles and tears. Remember when you all came down to Olympia to help with my moving sale? One of many precious memories. All my love, S
