Solveig Westby Obituary

WESTBY, Solveig Dorthea (Myhre) April 3, 1921 November 16, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother. Solveig was predeceased by her husband Chester and brothers Hans, Conrad, Reidar, Harlow, and Harold Myhre and sisters Alice Jernslet, Violet Anderson, and Gladys. She was the last remaining child of Kristiane and Matheus Myhre from Norway. She leaves behind sons Bryan (Elspeth), and Gary (Joanne), and her adored grandchildren, Tiffiny (Kekoa) Jaber, Claire, Christine (Bill) Benson, Kirk (Kim), Ryan and Mindy and great-grandchildren Jeremie, Madeline, Bowen, Lilikoi, Jake, Maya and August; brother-in-law Mervyn (Louis) Westby, sisters-in-law Ruth and Anne Myhre and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Solveig and Chester moved from Rose Valley, Saskatchewan to Victoria in 1948 and lived in the Strawberry Vale area for most of those years. They were members of Garden City United Church and the Sons of Norway. Their greatest joy was teaching their family many Norwegian traditions and passing on their family's history. Solveig loved her home and family where she gardened and enjoyed many fabric arts including hardanger embroidery. She enjoyed playing cards and also camping and fishing with her family in their retirement years. Many thanks to the staff at both Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital with special thanks to Drs. Stiganst and Burnett. A memorial service will be held at Garden City United Church, 4054 Carey Rd. in Saanich on Saturday, November 27 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Renal Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital. 610417

We remember your Mother/Grandmother so fondly. We never went to Victoria without seeing her. She was so good to our Mom (Minnie - her cousin) when she lived there too. May her reunion with her parents, husband and siblings ease the loss. God's peace be with you!

I met your Mother when I was 21 years old - she was my Mother's (Minnie Myhre Aunet) first cousin. I adored her and your Dad - and will always be thankful that I had the pleasure of knowing her/them all these years. They were very special to me.

My deepest sympathy to all you.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I had only known Solveig for a short time but she was a lovely person and I will treasure the memories she left with me. Our trip to Mayne Island with her niece Carol (my sister) and my children and drinking tea watching Dancing with the Stars. The last time I saw her she we looked at photographs, old and new, of all her family members. She was very proud of everyone and it was obvious they brought her great joy.
