MILLER, Thomas (Tom) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tom (Thomas) Miller of Victoria, B.C. at the age of 65, on November 13, 2006. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sheila, daughters Sandra MacDonald, Tanzania, Africa; Michelle Miller-Gauthier (Mark) Vanderhoof, B.C.; Heather Boudreau (Joseph) Duncan, B.C.; Lana Miller (Mark) Smithers, B.C.; Shauna Miller, Halifax, N.S.; and his four grandchildren. He is predeceased by parents Thomas and Ethel Miller. Tom was the heart of his family in Nova Scotia and cherished by his siblings Valerie Miller, Wayne Miller (Barbie), Barbara Manning (John), Blair Miller (Cathy), Brad Miller (Grace), and many loving nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Sidney, Nova Scotia, Tom studied at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish and became a passionate educator, teaching in Nova Scotia, Alberta, and BC. He served as a Principal for many years at Gold River and Cowichan Secondary Schools. Tom also served the province in the Ministry of Education as Coordinator of Small Secondary Schools, and at University of Victoria in the Ed Extension Dept. Tom had the unique gift of making everyone he met feel important and special to him, and in this way touched many lives. Since his retirement his precious grandchildren, Teigan, Addison, Emmanuel and Thomas, became the lucky recipients of this gift in their relationship with their Poppy". There will be a viewing & visitation at McCall Brothers Funeral Home at 1400 Vancouver St., Victoria, B.C. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2006 from 7:00 9:00 pm. Goodbye Big Brother
I'm sorry that we waited too long. The last time we saw each other, Shauna was only about 4 or five. Siblings should not be away from each other for such long periods. I take some compfort in knowing the good you have done for all the lives you touched in your short time among us. Those who were privelliged to know you will never forget. You will live on forever in our stories and in our memories. Each time one of us does a good deed for another, it will be a tribute to the spirit that you have helped to foster. Goodbye and God Bless
We Love You

I feel so cheated, Tom and I were finally in the same province and we were going to make such wonderful memories and have such great family times together. But I also feel blessed because I do have such fabulous memories of times we were able to share over the years. Tom and Shelia made Ken feel such a welcomed member of the family and for that I am so grateful.
I miss him already.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I was Tom's secretary at Cowichan Secondary School for the three years before his retirement. I have been with the district for 30 years and I would like to tell you that Tom was not only the best principal I have ever worked with but also the kindest, most caring, compassionate and non judgemental person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Anyone who had the priviledge of working with Tom would know that he was "the best" He will be very missed.
Please accept my heart felt thoughts in this time of sorrow.

To the Millers,

I was extremely shocked and saddened when mom told me of Tom's sudden passing. He was so much more to me than a 'friend of the family'. I've known Tom my whole life and loved him like my own parents. Reading all of the entries, it's apparent that he touched so many lives in such deep, inspiring ways. He was truly a great person. I will never again eat curry chicken without feeling a pang of sadness. The weekend before Tom's passing we watched the movie, "The Wizard of Oz". When thinking of Tom, I'm reminded of when the Wizard said to the Tin Man, "the size of a man's heart is not judged by how many he loves, but by how many love him". Tom had a huge heart! I hope that right now he is walking without a limp, free of pain with a smile on his face as we all reflect on what a wonderful person he was.

May God Bless your family in this time of Sorrow.

It will be the little things that you will remember the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter.
And although it is so difficult right now, it will be the memory of these little things that help to heal the pain and bring the smiles back.

Those who bloom in the hearts of others never fade away. What a beautiful difference one single life made. In Sympathy, no time on earth is long enough to share with those we love or to prepare our hearts for good-bye. May time soften the pain until all that remains is the comfort of memories and the love …………………… always the love.

With Deepest Sympathy,

George, Viola (Bippy) & Joanna

Our sincerest condolences to the Miller family. Our hearts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. I never grew up with Tom in the Pier but we were close acquaintences. The one memorable experience I had with him was the year that he, his dad, Tom Senior and myself went to Air Cadet camp as instructors. Poor Tom was bunked in with me not knowing that I was one of the worst snorers that came out of the Pier. I spent the night being constantly shaken by Tom saying "your snoring" (like I could do something about it). After several rounds of this, the next sound I heard was "fooooooomp" "foooooomp" that was the sound of a flying pillow bouncing off the wall above me. He wasn't allowed to have a room by himself so he had to tough it out. However, somehow he managed to switch with Jim who had no idea what he was in for thus began the process all over again. Every time we met after that, we laughed ourselves sick. I'm having a laugh right now becasuse I believe that wherever he is right now, he's having his laugh too. I will miss seeing him.

My Uncle Tom holds a special place in my heart. From teaching me how to grill salmon, to providing words of encouragement, to buying my hockey gloves, Uncle Tom’s love and friendship filled me with hope and strength.

Although I will miss him dearly, I feel at peace knowing that he is finally re-united with Grandma and Poppy in Heaven. God bless you Uncle Tom. I will do my best to care for your family.
