CULLEN, Michael James April 7th 1948 January 16th, 2009 Michael was born in Lethbridge Alberta April 7th, 1948 to Alan Joseph and Phyllis Yerxa Cullen. He is survived by his two daughters Maia and Catherine; three siblings Mary, Martin, and Patrick; nephews Jesse, Liam, Brody and niece Moira. Michael will be remembered as an accomplished writer and English Professor at the University of Victoria. Michael attended Oxford University, University of Notre Dame, and the University of Western Ontario. He won the du Maurier National Playwright competition, Praxis National Screenwriting competition, Norma Epstein award at the University of Toronto, and was columnist of the year for British Columbia in 2006. He was an active member of the Sidney community and shared his artistic gift by organizing the Sidney Reading Series and writing columns for the Peninsula News Review. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and will be dearly missed. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses in Palliative care unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for the loving care they provided Michael. A memorial will be held Saturday January 24th at the Mary Winspear Centre, room 2, at 1 pm in order to remember Michael. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saanich Peninsula Palliative Care Unit on behalf of him. 522269
