Shirley Adair CAPPER

CAPPER, Shirley Adair After a short illness, Shirley Adair Capper passed away peacefully on the evening of October 8th 2014, surrounded by family. Wife of the late John Capper, mother of Beverley (John) and Maureen (Robert and Donald), and Grangran of Meaghan (Iaian), Marc, Julien (Céline), and Olivier, she was predeceased by her sister Nan (Andrew), and survived by her brother Joe (Jill) and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was born in 1925 and grew up on a fruit farm in St. Catherines Ontario. She moved with her family to England in 1937. During the 2nd World War she worked at Bletchley Park as a decoder (FO Civilian; Air and Jafo sections) where she broke a Japanese code. After the war, she returned to Canada to live in Montreal, later in Stittsville, and most recently in Victoria. Shirley was an avid reader with a love of the arts, which extended to her refined sense of style, and her talent as an oil painter and seamstress. She had a sharp mind and excelled at bridge and cryptic crosswords. Though usually reserved, Shirley enjoyed telling a good story and was admired for her strength and resilience. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends and by her friends at Berwick Royal Oak. Private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
