BELL, William J. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of William (Bill) James Bell. He passed away comfortably in his sleep on November 28th, 2016. Born in Revelstoke, B.C. in 1927, this outstanding man leaves behind Lois, his loving wife of 62 years, his three sons James (Nicole), Jeff (Krista) and Bob (Michelle), and his two daughters, Carolyn (Ron) and Patricia (Rod). He also leaves behind eight grandsons and four granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters, who were his pride and joy. He is survived, as well, by his sister Babs and many other relatives. Bill's long and illustrious life saw him as a proud Olympian, a successful doctor and a patriarchal family man. In 1948, he was a member of the Canadian basketball team competing in the London Olympic Games. He then graduated from the first-ever medical class at the University of British Columbia. After his graduation in 1954, Bill moved to Victoria with Lois and spent his time happily married, raising a family and caring for the community as a physician. Bill's selfless devotion to his family, friends, community and faith was a gleaming light for all to follow. We will sorely miss his helpful advice, loving support and witty conversations. A Celebration of Life will take place at Oak Bay United Church on January 7, 2017 at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's name to Oak Bay United Church or Victoria Hospice.
