Douglas E. Richardson

Douglas Edward Richardson, age 71, of Florence, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The family will receive friends at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence, on Sunday, Oct. 5, from noon until 2 p.m. with a memorial service held immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Doug was a lifelong resident of Florence and a graduate of Coffee High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He was the owner of Doug Richardson Photography/Portraits Ltd. since 1969 specializing in bridal photography and portraiture. In recent years, he was best known for capturing the local flavor of events such as First Fridays, WC Handy Festival, Helen Keller Festival, and Renaissance Faire as well as many other events through his beautiful photography.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie P. (Joe) Richardson, mother, Ruby Eleanor Richardson, and grandmother, Martha Winifred Webb.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Jackie Rice (Rick), of Florence, and Julie Richardson, of Birmingham. He is also survived by cousins, James Carson and Gene Frazier (Jodi), of Florence, Charles Frazier (Linda), of Gonzales, Louisiana, Jauneze Gist, of Chapin, South Carolina, and Dr. Suellen Lee, of Columbia, Tennessee; and dear friends, Jim Brooks, of Killen, and Richard Conwill (Nancy), of Knoxville, Tennessee; as well as numerous other cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jerry James, Joey James, Jim Brooks, Richard Conwill, Joe Darby, and Toby Britt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Miami, FL, 33134.

Doug lived across the street from us and I miss seeing him going up and down the street waving and out mowing the yard. I met him almost 43 years ago. He was the photographer at our wedding. He wll never be forgotten. He was such a good neighbor.
