Verdie Lolabell Pierce

Verdie Lolabell Pierce of Williamsburg, Virginia died Friday, July 23, 2004. Mrs. Pierce was born in Cullman, Alabama on August 31, 1916. She lived in Williamsburg, Virginia for the past 41 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Julius C. Pierce Sr. "Doc". Mrs. Pierce along with her husband and son, co-founded Pierces Pitt Bar-B-Que of Lightfoot in 1971. She is survived by her four children, Herbert Lee Shelton and his wife, Florence Shelton of Auburndale, Fla., Dot Coleen Johnson and her husband, Charles W. Johnson of Auburndale, Fla., Connie Sue Johnston and her husband, Richard Johnston of Williamsburg, Va., and Julius C. Pierce Jr. of Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Donald Keith Johnson. She is survived by four grandsons, Charles W. Johnson Jr., Michael Scott Shelton, Christopher Troy Shelton, and Brian Judd Pearman; two granddaughters, Debbie Ann Rayson and Kayli Shelton; four great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at Nelsen Funeral Home.
