On August 25, 2017, Emilie Ann McCarthy Degville Richey, beloved wife of Matthew Lee Richey, died peacefully at her home in Bridgeport, PA. Emilie was born on December 8, 1961 in Washington, DC, spending her youth growing up in Potomac, Maryland, and was the loving daughter of David and Mary McCarthy. Emilie was a graduate of Georgetown University, Class of 1983, with a Bachelors of Arts in political science, and eventually settled in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, several years later.
Emilie excelled in numerous professional positions but was proudest of her work as a development finance manager with Mission First Housing Group for 22 years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Em was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was known to many for her kind and open heart. Her greatest enjoyments in life, outside of spending time with her beloved husband, Matthew Richey, were being on the beach, getting lost in a book, spending her Sundays watching Eagles Football with friends and family, having a glass of wine, and dancing.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Richey of Bridgeport, PA. Emilie was the mother of the late Madeline Degville, stepmother of Angela Carney (Mark Carney), Joseph Richey (Samantha Richey), Erica Richey, and Andrew Richey; daughter of David and Mary McCarthy; sister of Mary Ward (Rick Ward), Carolyn McCarthy (Randy Pack), and the late Katherine McCarthy; the aunt of Shannon Ward, Ross Ward, and Hannah Ward; and the grandmother of Carson Carney.
A memorial Mass for Emilie will be celebrated on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St., Bridgeport, PA 19405.
Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at the church.
Burial will take place at St. Augustine Cemetery immediately following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention in the memory of Emilie's daughter Madeline Degville at this website: https://afsp.org.

I have never met Emilie personally but worked with her over the years from Pittsburgh, PA on some housing projects she put together that received funding from FHLBank Pittsburgh. I always admired her professionalism, know-how, kindness and diligence in getting the job done. She was a pleasure to work with and will be fondly remembered. Prayers and peace to Emilie's entire family.

When I first met Emily 3 months ago we hit it off. She would come in and wait for Matt at the office. She and I would talk about her and Matt heading to the shore to get the house ready for the summer. I will miss her smile, compliments and words of encouragement. I know that she resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praying for comfort for the family.

I am so deeply sorry Matt, and all the rest of Emilie's family, for such a tragic loss. Ironically, when I met Emilie (and Matt) it was, at the beach.. God's blessings for gentle comfort.
