David W. Harrington Notice
Dec. 5, 1945 - May 11, 2018 Vallejo David Westley Harrington, of Vallejo, did not leave this world at the hands of a jealous husband at the age of 99, as he had hoped. Instead, he peacefully passed from this world on May 11. From the time he was a young boy, Dave was a sports fanatic, loving baseball, basketball, football and pretty much any other sport he could watch, play or make a bet. When it came to sports statistics and other bits of trivia, he was like an encyclopedia, able to store an incredible amount of information. He shared his love of sports with his daughters, taking them to many games, both professional and local. He proudly taught his oldest daughter to keep a baseball scorebook and read a racing form from an early age. As a lifelong Vallejo resident, Dave attended Hogan High School and completed his apprenticeship at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, where he continued to work until its closing. Over the years, he made many lifelong friends, teammates, and future residents of his home for wayward men. Underneath the tough exterior, Dave had a big heart, always willing to help someone out of a jam. He also loved a bad joke and was always eager to share his many opinions, which were never sugar-coated. In the end, he passed from this world, the same way he lived his life, doing it his way. David will be greatly missed by his brother, Darrell Harrington; his daughter, Stacey Harrington; his granddaughters, Rylee and Emery Land; his niece, Gale Harrington; his great-niece, Ripley Snyder, and all his friends that will miss his larger-than-life presence, his infectious, substantial laugh and his karaoke rendition of "Sweet Caroline". His daughter, Jennifer Harrington who left us much too early, will now be able to enjoy his karaoke favorites. A small celebration for family and friends is being planned.
