Following his illness of several months, George F. Bawart passed away peacefully on January 25, 2010 with his wife, Jan and "daughter", Dana at his side. George was born September 3, 1939 in Burlingame, CA.
George was a retired Vallejo Police Officer. For 17 of his 28 years, he was a detective. Among his many cases, he was best known as the investigator on the ongoing Zodiac case.
After retirement, George was frequently found maneuvering the Bye George along the Delta waterways. At home, George built intricate radio controlled airplanes, was a voracious reader, accomplished cook, and an avid football and NASCAR fan, often watching with his "perfect" grandson, Bret. George was always ready with an entertaining story about events when he was a police detective or life in general. Fun loving and caring, George will be dearly missed.
George is survived by his wife and loving companion of nearly 30 years, Jan. Stepdaughters, Debora Farrell and Dana Fishburn (whom he referred to as his "daughter"), her husband, Les, and grandson, Bret. From an early marriage daughters, Natalie Bawart, Christine Wheelock, Debbie Daly and granddaughters, Christina Daly, Amanda Daly, Jordan Lane and Juliette Wheelock. George is also survived by sisters, Suzanne Day and husband, Steve and Mimi Rapp along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 11 at St. Peters Chapel on Mare Island, Vallejo, California.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local Cancer Society.

I remember George and those little blonde girls. We always hung out together at the Elks Club and danced the night away at the "Father/Daughter" Dances. George was a great dancer. All of those girls were little beauties and so polite. Keeping you all in our prayers.

Yvonne and Tony Parrino would like to express our sympathies to Natalie, Christine and Debbie, who we remember as little girls with lots of blonde hair. This goes back to the house on Western. A few years back. Short story George, myself and Thomas E P Woods III were all hired on the same day. When we got our uniforms from the tailor we show up at the Police Dept on Marin Street in full class A uniform. Gun belt and all. I think Capt Lacy nearly fainted when he saw the three of us walk in in uniform and not one day of trainig. He sent us home Code #3 to get out of the uniforms. It was long after that we were all trained and ready to go. The Department put us on the graveyard shift with Kent,Thacker, Nillson,Meredith,Riley,Zander,Buster Carriger and George Brazil as our Sergeant. That is who kept the peace on Vallejo in the old days. That was in 1961. The last century. God Bless and Be careful out there.
